i thought you could only get $1k out of your GM card
After I ordered my Solstice, about ten months had gone by when I noticed on my statement points dissapearing? I contacted GM Card for an explaination. They said that, If you don't use your points within so many years, they start taking back the points monthly beggining with the first months points, then the second and so on until you have no points if you don't purchase a new vehicle. I informed them that I was waiting on my Solstice to arrive and I was ticked. They agreed to halt reverse withdrawal for 3 months, but would at that time (If I hadn't purchased) take all 3 months off at one time and continue this practice until I purchased or ran out and restarted. My car came in before their deadline. As a matter of fact, they started adding monthly points again after the conversation. I was down to about 3,250. When the car came, I was warned that I might only get about 1,200. towards the purchase. Well, After the delay, the Wrong Seats and the great salesperson I deal with, A call by my super sales gal to GM expressing what a valued customer I was along with what was posted on my account from 3 months before, GM Card gave me all my points to keep me happy! Go Eva Stuart @ Michael Holley Pontiac/Buick/GMC.
I ended up actualy paying less than MSRP because when the car finally got here, it had the wrong seats from the factory. There wasn't a way to mark two boxes on the survey. I got about 875. bucks knocked off MSRP and had 3,487.00 built up on my GM Card. I've been with this salesperson from Chevy to Pontiac for 12 years. I've been told I have the cheapest Solstice ever sold. I think they may be right! Hooray
Okay...I need to know what GM card you have.....Because I have the GM Card (World) and I just checked the website yesterday (because I might be buying a GXP this weekend) and it says you can only use $1000. That all I was able to use on my current Sol. I went out and got the GM extended family card and it's my understanding you can use all your points. Well I only have a few hundred points accumulated on this card. On my GM Card (World) I have $7,500+ points. It's very important that I find out what card you used because I am going tomorrow to test drive the GXP. Please respond!!!! Thanks!!!!

I have the GM Mastercard World. Previous to this past year & purchase , I have been allowed to spend all point money when using GM's lease program for a three year lease for my wife's co. car. They also let us terminate the 3 yr. lease @ the 21/2 yr. mark, so they can put the bizz back in a new lease. I only recently heard that they no longer gave you your entire rewards points at one time. Further, it's been a while since I looked or asked about rules, but The last few years they only allowed me to earn 500.00 points per year. The cut off point was 3,500.00 dollars. Unless there are drastic changes I've ignored, you had to spend 7 years to get 3,500. Unless you are leaseing and knocking down your points every 21/2 yrs. The last vehicle I bought (Silverado) 7 years ago. I only had about 1,400.00 in points towards a totally maxed out ext. Cab and they gave me all my points then. The day I went to take delivery on my Solstice was the first time anyone told me I would not be able to get all the points at one time. I was a little shocked, but really didn't think about it as my car was being unloaded off the carrier. I guess my nickname (Lucky Chucky) fits me well.
You say you have 7,500.00 points on your (World Card) ? Because they told me , I guess years back that I could not earn more than 500. points per year, I always switch to another Card with a 5% kick back like USAA MC 5% off gas anywhere when I reach 500.00 for the year. In the past, I just stopped receiving points at 500., even if I was only half way through the year. I am intriqued by your comments. I am either living in a Vacuum or the Rules may be different from State to State.
Shout back at me Sol_Candy. I'm going to the GM sight here directly and see what my FL card rules currently are. I have been a Card holder for 20+ years and to date, I have never carried a monthly balance and beleive me, I use the @%#* out of my card. Actually I use several cards (all paid to 0 every month) but primarily the GM MC World. I probably put no less than 1,800. to 2,200. per month. I charge a couple hundred bucks on USAA, Discover, AOL Visa and American Express especially right after I clear my points. They bug you constantly to buy a new vehicle as soon as you accumulate 1,500. points, even if you just bought and leased at the same time three months before. ????
Back to you---------

I just got back from GM site. According to the information there, you can now earn as many points as you want. I went to the my activities and viewed the points applied to the purchase of my soltice. It's all there! Redeemed to the bone!!
I then went to the how to redeem your points page and read the the steps.
1) Find and negotiate the gm you want.
2) And the this is KIND of how it is worded--THE DEALER WILL then tell you your allowable earnings???? Go there and read the ambigutuity of the redemption. I think the times they are a changing!
When you're ready to redeem toward the purchase or lease of an eligible, new GM vehicle:
1. Visit your GM dealer and choose the eligible, new GM vehicle you want.
2. Negotiate your best price and apply most currently available incentives.
3. The dealer then deducts your available Earnings up to the Redemption Allowance. Enjoy your exclusive GM Cardmember price. That's it. Three steps to great savings without delay or complicated forms.
"up to the redemption allowance"
You should take a look at your paper work again and make sure they didn't pull a fast one.

Yes----"UP TO REDEMPTION ALLOWANCE" Allowance on purchase, Seems to be 1,000 now. Not same rules on a Lease. Our Co. is always getting it,s points applied to the Lease down payment. A couple years ago. All your points were yours to spend on a (NEW GM Vehicle) Also in 2006 & probably now, there are NO incentives offered on the purchase of a Solstice, as I have been told many times. Whereby my own deal was pretty sweet, I only got a 36,000 warranty. What did you mean about a fast one. This discussion made me look at my paperwork. Thats how I discovered they had screwed up and forgot to add in the destination charge on closing sheet! I have not lost any sleep over their error, of course I didn't know about it until yesterday 1 yr. 5 months later!
Things must be a bit softer here in So. Cal. I picked my GXP up in April for dealer invoice. $1200.00 under sticker.
I did have to walk out of another dealer the day before that wouldn't go below $500 over invoice, though, and kept insisting that every other dealer was selling the cars for $3000 to $5000 over sticker...
I had a great experience at the place I bought the car. I was in and out of there in 45 minutes. Best experience I've ever had at a car dealership...

I just got mine for around $800 below sticker in Orlando. The dealer said the same thing about other dealers charging over, and the KBB price is also over (I think as much as $1000), but I think that is starting to be less true. There were about 10 solstices in the lot and while I was there for a couple hours on both saturday and sunday I didn't see anyone else looking at them. Saved me a small amount of money but I'd overall feel better if they were just flying off the lot.

That's almost identical to the deal I got on my '08. The GM Card is a handy thing.
I'm pretty happy with the deal we got. It's an '07, new, but with 1.100 miles on it. Not a demo, just driven a bit by the sales people, and test driven. So the in service date hadn't started yet. Sticker was over $32,300, and we paid $27,900, plus $750 GM card discount, PLUS )% financing! The car was built the end of April, so it's not an old car, just loaded and didn't sell. I had them do an alignment and change the oil to Mobil 1.
So we paid over $5,000 UNDER MSRP, PLUS 0% on the balance. That's the cheapest new car payment I've had since the 80's!
