I wonder just how good this car will be in the snow. Rear wheel drive and all. I'm thinking - probably not to good
My sister once had a Fiero GT – Talk about a terrible car in the snow. The thing was like a top!
The low ground clearance is probably a bigger issue than it being RWD. It will won't make it through even moderately deep snow. However, a set of good snow tires and traction to get the car moving should be fine. As an extreme, studded snows could be put on the back, and then it will get going without a problem.
Mine will be primarily used in late spring, summer, and early fall to commute to work and for weekend driving. For winter and bad weather I have a Chevy Silverado 4x4. The solstice will be our fourth car. I'll be giving my Toyota Avalon (1997, 120K miles, runs great) to my 16 year old son as soon as he passes drivers ed and get his regular license.
Fortunately, this will be primarily a weekend car - although I'm sure my wife and I will find plenty of excuses to drive it during the week (too many miles on my lease, better gas mileage, low flying migratory birds...).

Why don't some of you Northerners who have other cars just let us nice weather folks have our cars first since they will actually be used during the winter
I'd be PO'ed if I still lived up north and found out I was getting it in November or something. I will warn you though, especially without the limited slip differencial you are gonna have problems in the slick stuff. Even my rear wheel drive BMW 525i had to have cinder blocks in the trunk to help out in the winter handling and just sucked up north. Here in NC it'll actually have a chance of top down just about any month of the year.
By the way, This is "MY" daily driver(aside from several motorcycles), but I work from home so I don't ever need it. My wife has an Explorer so we're ok. Can't imagine it being an only car.
I've never had a lot of respect for vehicles that are only "for show" or just to drive on the nice days. I drove my miata year round, only failed me once. Working 3rd shift at Boeing, coming home after an ice storm, Highway I-135 was cleared about 10 miles around wichita. Hit the ice at 60mph and suddenly found myself staring at the driver behind me through the front windshield before I spun out into the median in a cloud of snow.
On the other hand, the few times I got it stuck, it was REAL easy to push out!!!
Well i have an M3 and an S2000 right now, my S2K, and M3 are rotated every day it seems, just whatever i feel like driving, i keep performance tires on them all year long and im fine. So, when i sell my S2k, im sure i will drive my Sky/Solstice for about a month straight just to get used to it and because ill be all exited, but then i will go back to driving my M3 as well.
See i live in Texas, so i can get away with having a convert all year, and both these cars will be kept in a climate controlled garage all year.
A little late in responce but I did just join...Minnesota has nasty winters but fantastic DOT plow crews! I will drive the car year round but not as a daily driver. My lifestyle won't let me get away with a two-seat only car. Seems to me the car came with air-conditioning as an option but a heater was standard...that rear window de-fogger had to be put in for a purpose as well!
i never postend in this one... i live in arkansas and we only have 1 or 2 snows a year so yeah itll be all year, if the roads do get bad ill just take the saturn. (my current car, soon to be my sister's) the only problem i can see having with the sol as my primary is getting all my dirty clothes home from college haha.
I gave up my 89 Benz for my Solstice. I will be driving it year round here in beautiful Bucks County PA. I admitt to being nervous about snow and ice, but the Benz was awful in the snow and ice!! I guess when the weather is foul I will sit home and read the posts here.
Gets pretty cold in Iowa and some years we have quite a bit of snow. I will drive the Solistice when the roads are nice and drive my 4x4 when they are not.
My Solstice will be my daily driver. Since our winters are reasonable, I will be able to get many top down drives on my way home from work in the early evening.
I think all of us here in Arizona will be year round drivers. Our only difference will be our tops will probable be up during Jul - Sep except in early morning or late evening drives. Hope to be getting mine in Oct and for me, that's perfect......

Hey, if you get it in October you have to take me for a drive! And you're right, in Arizona year round is what we will be doing.
Im in the same boat at goal, I'm 21 and finishing up college which means I'm limited financially. Ill drive it up here in NJ in the snow w/ out snow tires which means I simply wont drive it in the snows, Ill borrow a car from my parents, no shame in that is there??? lol
