Here's a great vanity plate for your car CHINOOK. Are studded tires still legal in Alberta. They were banned here years ago.
For those who do not live on the eastern side of the Rockies. A chinook is a warm dry wind that makes snow disappear like crazy. It is a result of the difference in adiabatic temperature loss/gain with elevation for moist air (Western side of mountains) and dry air (Eastern side). Also explains why Death Valley is so darn hot.

Drive it and enjoy it in every condition. On your death bed you will not say I'm glad I did'nt drive it in the snow. Your more likely to wish you'd driven it once more. Life is to short not to enjoy every moment. Take it from someone who has flat lined.
Incidently, my wife has been driving her 94 camero every winter in salt rich Michigan and the car's body is still immaculate. No rust spots anywhere. Just do it.
I'll drive mine most days. I'm looking for steel wheels with better winter tires. I'm thinking body color with chrome center "moon" caps. I want to save the wheels. They get eaten up with the salt in a couple of year
4x4 GMC '95 ON THOSE SNOW DAYS. i DON'T KNOW HOW THIS WILL GO IN THE SNOW. Athough I still have my '85 fiero. I drove that through some really deep stuff and never, well once, got off the road or stuck. It was all I had when I was a younger man. Not that I'm old, but, wow, I'm getting there.
Unless theres heavy snow ill drive my solstice yearround-Also this is my first and only car so not like i have another choice. I could buy a 500 dollar car for the winter but the insurance will probably be round 500 a month as well so no point lol
I'm already storing a TR6, and sold a '73 911 to get this car. It won't melt. I plan on driving it. After all, I've heard there's something available for us nowadays... It's call a car wash. Then, I'll detail it in the spring. For anyone planning on storing it - after 100,000 are built, there won't be much collector value in the thing. It's meant to be driven.
No. 584 will be in the garage except on dry winter days. Too much salt on the roads around here and we can get five or six inches of snow in a couple of hours. I hope to find a few dry days so I can head south in it, though. It was a beautiful day here today and enjoyed the drive.
Summer only. Alright, spring as soon as the salt is washed off the roads until the first snow in November. Since I have 2 4x4 pickup for winter and hauling the Solstice will sit otherwise. Will save miles and matinence on both!
It was cool today, but sunny. The heater works well and with the windows up, its not bad. I was able to get another hundred miles on her today. Hopefully we'll have a few more days like this and one will be 11/26, the date of the next cruise.
Definitely a year 'round car here. So far it's done very well on rain, snow, and ice. It's making winter a whole lot more bearable (Plus it makes me have to keep the drive cleared well...didn't have to do that with the van, it'd plow through/over anything in it's path...)
Year round daily commuter car but we are taking Dover Delaware and 15 miles one way to work. If the ground clearance is an issue because of snow fall the better half has a Yukon and I guess I'll just have to be a passenger

Third car - for fun/pleasure only taking out when weather's condusive. I will drive it sometimes in the winter on a dry, sunny day. Already had the top down on a 35 degree sunny day. It was very comfortable top down, heat blasting - we had a ball and I don't know who was having more fun, us or the people around us digging the car and the fact that we had the top down on such a cold day!
For everyone driving one this winter.... how's it dealing so far? What's the traction like? (I'd imagine that rear end is very light... are you loading sandbags in the trunk to keep the back planted? LOL) If I get mine (I'll have an answer by the end of this week) I may keep a second car for winter when it's especially inclement, but still use the Sol on most days. I see that Tirerack has a -1 package for it, and a decent selection of winter tyres, but I don't see any studded tyres there. I may have to shop elsewhere for those.

We've had a little snow here (St.Louis,MO) but not enough, so far, that I had a chance to drive in it.
I wouldn't load the trunk - the car's balance is already near 50-50, and oversteer in snow is fun, but harder to control! (Former Fiat 850 Spyder owner - rear engine.)
I will, however, keep a coffee can of cat litter handy, just in case. I've helped a number of Camaros and Firebirds with it over the years.
