Two years ago, my wife saw a photo of the Solstice concept car in a magazine, and told me that she had found her next car. Obviously, there wasn't much information on the Sol at that time, so we just kept watching for any news. She didn't want to hear about any other cars, but my job is to do the research, which I did. The data started coming out on the MX5. Based on data alone, the MX5 sounded like it might be a contender (due mostly to the fact that it's the next generation of an established line) but we hadn't seen any pics. Finally we got to see what the production model of the Sol was going to look like, and also the MX5. Next to the Sol, the Mazda looks flat and boring. In less than a second, the decision was made and, as we finally took delivery of her new baby on 1/21/06, I'm convinced she knew what she was doing. She got Sly with all packages and chrome wheels.
Was looking to buy new Mustang GT. Very reminiscent of the 69 Mach I, my first care love. Then someone at work turned me on to the sol and I was smitten.....
I was not looking at buying a convertible, never mind looking at the Miata/MX5....But when I saw the Solstice picture, I said to myself I have to have this car. So, I ordered one without even considering a Miata...

many here may have voted wrong however - note many said they never considered it because of the styling, but that actually means they did consider it, and dismissed it. At least that's the way I see it - think the question wasn't defined enough to seperate out that difference.
I never even thought once about the Miata...I've never cared for the look of it and I DON'T FIT. Co-worker has one and every time I ride in it I feel like I'm in a sardine can. All the style in the world isn't going to make the fit any better, that is why I had to sit in a Solstice before I ever placed an order.
It fit so I had to commit!

I made a list of the top million car models in the world.
No Japanese car made the list.

right, so how did you vote - consider - or never considered - I'd say you considered it as you knew you didn't fit, means you considered it no???? I was jut tryong to make that point.....

RODEO, I voted never considered because:

The only reason I know that it doesn't fit isn't because I looked at them but because:

The only other convertible I ever looked at was the Mini - I did fit (adjustable seat) but still too small for my taste!
I do understand why you feel there should be better description - but then again you are just a bit biased there Mr. Miata Man

Sounds good to me.
Let's consider the dollars here. Assumptions:
40% income tax bracket for corporations.
$25,000 Mazda Miata.
$2000 profit to the dealer.
$500 profit to Mazda of America.
Mazda of America owned by Japanese. (I don't know; anyone?)
Mazda of Japan owned 33.4% by Ford.
Mazda of Japan net profit 10% of sales to Mazda of America (I'm sure it is MUCH lower than that.)
American pays $25,000 for Miata.[US = - $25000]
Dealer, probably American owners, pays Uncle Sam $800 and keeps $1200. [US = + $2000]
Mazda of America pays Uncle Sam $200 and sends $300 to Japan. [US = +$200]
Remaining $22,500 is sent to Japan. [US = zippo]
Mazda of Japan net profit $2,250. [US = + $761.52]
NET = $22,038.48 taken out of US economy.
And you see that as a good thing?
