A lot of hard work has already gone into the preparations for this meet...but the next 9 months are a killer. The head count below is dated 07-01 and only shows

32 ROOMS BOOKED OUT OF 112 "entries" ...............

this is atrocious

If you say you are coming ...confirm your attendance by booking your room now...why wait?

Let me 'splain without putting too much information out there.

THE ENTIRE HOTEL IS BOOKED AND RESERVED FOR US......and that means it was virtually PRE- PAID....(by someone ...to guarantee the rooms)

So we've got this hotel out there sitting on 200 rooms that they can't rent out to ANYONE ELSE !!! GET IT?

So if you wait till next March and go...yeah what the hay..I guess I'll go...or worse...keep everyone hanging and say...you know what...take me off the list...I think I'll PASS

Guess what ? The hotel is still gonna bill "the committee" for "your " room.....and guess who won't be retiring until they're 85....right..."THAT SAME COMMITTEE"...that guaranteed your room for you.



How'd you like to be in the 2009 Committee's shoes right now....

Sorry if there was any miscommunication on my part, but I was not aware that stating I would be at the meet automatically meant that a hotel room was going to be booked for me a year in advance? I have a lot of family in Colorado, it is where I grew up. So, while I will be at many / most of the driving events and can't wait to get my East Coast Solstice into the Rocky Mountains and canyons I grew up in and used to drive my MGB in, I don't need a hotel room during the event as I will be staying with family.

Can't wait to see everyone at the event!

Not wanting to step on any toes here, but the 2009 Nationals is whitefangs responsibility and that of his committees. NOBODY else other than he and his committee members have any responsibities with respect to the Nationals "breaking even." I'm certain they will keep all of us informed as to when the final dates are for reservations and when the hotel bookings need to be made. There are still lots of people who have to finalize plans for next year, I'm one of them. Let's let the 2009 committee keep us informed since it's their job to do it and not ours. JMHO

on second thought - let me re-state that

In principle I agree that 2009 is Colorado's responsibility.....BUT

you yourself know how hard it is to get a committment out of people for an event.
If you had to pre-pay 50 entries to PVGP and then 20 didn't show...that would bother you - wouldn't it?

For NEO SOS...T2TR etc we start lobbying for people to commit via a dinner pre-pay
about 4 months in advance and that is only $20.00 per dinner.

When you organize a NATIONAL event (depending on when and where) there are contracts that have to be signed..sometimes as far ahead as 2 years in advance.....and there are "non-performance" penalties attached to these contracts. These may be for hotels...food (caterers) or both. These have the potential to cost any event organizer THOUSANDS of dollars.

It was NEVER my intent to usurp any "authority" from the 2009 gang.
Rather it was to stir the pot and get a lot of people thinking about what a "committment" really means on the National level, and what goes on behind the scenes to make a NATIONAL event a success.

If you feel differently - then that is your opinion.
But I would hope- should we secure 2010 for Canton- that there would be people out there (not part of the committee) that would rally to the cause and stir the membership in a positive way. That was my intent- pure and simple

If my verbage offended anyone i apologize......my intent was only to bump a thread that had been dormant for about 40 days and get a few people thinking about taking that committment up one more level.

Those who have not had to make the commitment for something the size of a NASSM probably don't realize the investment
