2010 ROAD CAPTAINS- WinterTraining Schedule
This thread is to be held different from 2010 RC MASTER or Run Schedule
This thread is for all potential Road Captains to post when they are available for training.
I will dedicate and put aside virtually all STORM-FREE weekends all winter.
You do not have to come into the area in you Kappa...use a beater
The idea is to show up- PERIOD- and learn the roads.
First post:
There is a training run 10-31-09
DATE & TIME: 10-31-09 9:30 am
Originating Point: N-town
Roads to cover : First 90 minutes of T2TR both directions
This covers N-town to Woodsfield and back (Enough people have run the DH to know 26 and 555 inside out...so we are just doing the start- both ways)
Lunch will be @ 1pm in N-town (Dicks's??? if it is open)
Second run will be Short Stack....direction to be decided (2-4 pm)
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'!!!!!!!!!! Got that from a junk e-mail but it works!!!
Count me in for this weekend. It just depends on what happens with my grandmother who is in the hospital. So if anything happens I might have to cancel, but good for now. Taking the Rabbit though, not the Sol.
First, i will note that running with Druid on these roads as a training event is really first and foremost, the best way to learn (he makes you use your eyes). I was a student of his. (I should apologize for setting my Garmin to Cartman-mode just to drive him crazy a bit while he rode with me).
Second, I am focusing on the Garmin maps to add that extra edge for folks RC'ing. This coming weekend, KYGXP and I will be coming down and adding the final polish to the maps to ensure they are spot-on.
My plan was to load Garmins at the upcoming T2TR; however, for those that need them before that, I would be happy to work something out. For example, if Toyman is coming down 3/27/2010, I could run the maps over to him on a chip that he could transfer to others training that weekend.

Howard, you sent me the maps back in January, but I never got a chance to use them. If you are going to fine tune them this weekend, if you could email me the updated version before the 27th that would be great (if you don't have time, no problem).
And to your first point, I agree that actually learning the route visually makes more sense to me than relying solely on the GPS. I consider the Garmin to be an aid, not a primary means of running.
Paula will be recording key points and writing notes as we practice the runs (working as a team).
