Registration is open here

We have been hard at work to get us ready for the 2018 event.

We are holding a working meeting on April 22 at the Ameristar Hotel/Casino in Black Hawk Colorado. The committee began negotiations with the Ameristar in March and hoping to finalize much of the requirements this weekend.

I have seen other threads in regards to some of the events we are planning. Please ask any questions on this thread and I will do my best to reply within 48 hours.

The contract with the Ameristar Hotel is signed. We are working to have the website up and running for registration on the last day of the 2017 Nationals along with the ability to make resevations with the hotel at the same time. The team is working on the 2018 video which will be released at the awards night banquet later this month in Lexington.

We are putting together the vendor invite list currently.

We have a draft event schedule which we will be publishing once we open up the 2018 website to all of you. It is up and running but still undergoing final tweaking and video updates. :lurk:

We have members of the 2018 coming to Lexington to enjoy this year's NASSAM and begin spreading the word about 2018.

We are going to ask the 2017 team to allow us to set up a small area where we will have information about the 2018 Colorado Nationals. This will include information about the event, a souvenir sticker and help in registering.

We will include the draft schedule for 2018 as well. Based on our experience attending several National events, we are setting up a cruise schedule and a hotel schedule.

The cruise schedule includes near and distant (day trip) cruises both with guides and self guided. Our objective is to provide interesting Colorado cruises that are fun and interesting but keep the number of cars below 10 to make sure people can view the scenery and are not gripping the wheel for dear life while trying to keep up as the 20th car in line. So we will have a number of 5-7 car cruises daily for attendees who want to have a guide. We will also provide information for self guided cruises where individuals or small groups can set their own pace and enjoy the discovery opportunities.

The hotel schedule is in response to our experience that there are always a number of participants who for what ever reason choose to spend the day at the hotel enjoying the company of other stay behinds. We are creating a slate of events at the hotel during the day to attract people who are not cruising with interesting things to do and experience.

These include Cars and Coffee in the morning, participatory classes in how to detail your car, where for each session one attendees car will be fully detailed as part of the class. We are hoping to get Adam's Polishes to perform these classes but we have several Club detailers who are very good detailers who can run the classes.

One of the more popular classes we run at our Punisher Garage Days is Maintaining Your Kappa. We take a volunteers car and do a full inspection using the maintenance checklist and demonstrate what to lube, what to treat, what to tighten etc. We are bringing the Quickjack lift so we can go under the car and inspect the bottom as well.

We are planning on a Bench Racing BBQ for lunch with beer, brauts and conversation where we can share our experiences and get questions answered. Oh, and eat good food.

Each afternoon we will be holding a car show with public voting for winners. The plan is to hold a different class each day leading up to the final OPEN car show on Friday. We have identified a number of classes that will allow all levels of cars from the dirtiest to the best stock car to lightly modified to full up trailer queen.

In the evening we will be offering the choice of taking a dinner cruise to one of the local mountain towns or dancing on the roof and car movies on the roof. I have ~3000 movies including a lot of fast and furious car movies - want to see Christine? Sure. We will be publishing a list so people can vote on which movie for each night. And the hotel has promised us a dance floor will be set up for us on the roof so we can have dancing under the stars nightly.

And Dave has promised to hold a Colorado Campfire several times during the week. The hotel has a big fire pit where we can make smores and sing around the campfire.

Finally we are looking at running a nightly starlight cruise that will take the attendees on a local cruise under the stars to let them experience the beauty of the mountains after dark.

Hope to see you in Colorado next June. Till then, enjoy Lexington!

We are testing the links on the 2018 site. Our goal is to allow registration to begin this week. I successfully made hotel reservations using the site links.

We are looking for volunteers who want to lead cruises at the 2018 Nationals.

We are planning on cruises that are 5-7 cars for safety and so everyone is having a good time and low stress. We don't want high catch up speeds and issues in the tight mountain roads.

We will have a mix of cruises, several day long cruises to Gateway, RMNP, Pikes peak etc, as well as shorter 1-2 hour cruises to the top of Mt. Evans, to Buffalo Bills grave etc. We are looking for volunteers who ideally have experience leading cruises who would be willing to lead one or more cruises at the 2018 event. We will provide all training and materials.

Let us know please.

Thanks

Website is up and running. Does not yet handle weekend reservations. Jim is looking into that. For now if you want weekend days, call the hotel and get them to add to your weekly reservation. Draft schedule is up for your viewing pleasure. Still in work and still accepting suggestions and requests.

Also have created our own YouTube channel
https://www.nassam2018.com/

Will be sharing videos of pre-runs for cruises over the coming months so you can better anticipate what to see and select your activities.

We are investing as much effort into creating hotel based events as cruises. We recognize that many (maybe most) attendees choose to go on a run and then take some time off back at the hotel. We have events planned from cars and coffee in the morning through movies and dancing on the roof under the stars. S'mores around the campfire is also on the list.

We are also planning on bringing the Punisher Garage Day to the roof parking at the hotel and will be offering to do professional details for attendees cars as part of detailing training. And we are bringing the lift so we can do maintenance training for everyone while inspecting / working on a volunteer's car. These will run daily at different times so we can keep the class sizes manageable and make sure that everyone who wants to participate has a chance to do so.

We are doing our best to keep current with questions or input on the Facebook page but if you prefer to share here, that is fine as well. Or just PM me and I will do my best to be responsive.

So here is the latest on the weekend reservations . . . we talked to the hotel and they had not loaded weekend days into their reservation tool for our event. They agreed to add 10 weekends into the tool and they should be there now or very soon. If / when we use up those ten days they are willing to put in more weekend days so you can reserve them through the linked hotel tool. If you have issues let us know and we will work it with them.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure how long it takes them to add the weekend days to their site. But you can register for the week and call the hotel to add the weekend to your registration. Several of us have done that successfully

There are several points of interest that are close to the Ameristar. Here are a few we are planning on providing on our cruise list.

Evergreen Colorado is a small mountain community that has shopping, sight seeing and multiple eating opportunities. The drive to get there is also a favorite with drivers and photographers.

The Shelby American Collection is a National level museum located in Boulder Colorado

Buffalo Bill is buried near Golden and the road to his resting place is a local favorite.

Mt Evans is a great cruise. If the weather performs as usual the highest paved road in CONUS will be open to us for a half day trip to the top. We are working with our event photographer to set up opportunities for some great pictures of you and / or your car at the summit. We are also testing an option to take video of your car traversing one of the most breathtaking portions of the road to the top.

We are planning dinner cruises to Idaho Springs. But they also offer shopping, site seeing, a mine tour and a Zip line.

Some of the food

Tommyknockers is a destination brew pub with lots of great food and BEER

We have access to the entire parking structure including the covered ares. We asked for the top floor which they gave us. It is for our exclusive use during the event. Out has 260 marked spaces plus area for washing, vendors and hotel events. It is also much safer for our cars then the main structure which is narrow and tight. And we can provide much better security for the cars and equipment

The Pikes Peak cruise will include a stop at the Garden of the Gods. Its a beautiful rock formation just outside Colorado Springs

The summit of Pikes Peak can be reached by road or rail. The road is now paved all the way to the top just for us. :)

Great question, Bob. That is a bit far off right now, so have to figure out how I can get both there. ?? Maybe Patti would drive one of them up. Sue would enjoy that. After we leave Ouray next month, I will have to see what I can arrange for next summer on So Pinery Blvd with the daughter/son-in-law on the third garage stall.....can't leave it outside, LOL.
