I've got this on my calendar.. and would certainly enjoy the caravan on the way out. I'd meet up in the Illinois spot since I didn't see an Indiana spot. Coming from the extreme western edge of Michigan the Michigan stop doesn't make sense for me.
Subscribed to the thread now... so I'll keep an eye out as it gets closer.
Location: buzzard..what buzzard..do you see a buzzard..I didn't see a buzzard...or that little sparrow either

did you miss the hook up ( #2) at I-69 and I-80/90 ???...was put there just for you
but if you need farther west...we'll find something in the way of a rest stop WEST of South Bend...does that work?

Yeah.. that stop brings me almost 2 hours east from my place, in which time I could be almost to Gary, IN (I-65 in Northwestern Indiana).
Starting in Michigan City or something like that would great. I'm guessing you'll be taking I-80 (tollway) across, and if you wanted to get off of that the Westville, IN exit would be a good spot, head north on 421 towards Michigan City, IN and meet up there (there is a large truck stop just south of I-94 about 1 mile).
OR
Head a bit further west to Ripley to get onto I-94, but there's a ton of traffic around there and no real good places to stop. The exit between (Chesteron / Valpraiso) would be good as well... I used to live in Chesterton and there's tons of places to grab a quick bite to eat (fast food) or stop for a bathroom break right at the entrance ramps to I-94.
Check those out and see what works.. but the current Michigan stop doesn't really help me. Any other folks from Michigan could end up meeting at these spots as well.
Well, our discussions at T2TR-DH this past weekend got me thinking about D-2's caravan plans for Nats.
So this is what is currently percolating in my mind for my trip West from Joisey:
Monday - Drive from NJ to OH - freeload off of D-2 for a room for the night. Depart OH one day ahead of D-2.
Tuesday - Drive from OH to IL - freeload a room for the night from someone in the Chicago or Central IL area. (volunteers currently being accepted)
Wednesday - Depart IL at appropriate time to meet up with the caravaners to continue on to Omaha and ultimately Denver.
Gives me the opportunity to sleep a little more/drive a little less each day, while still being part of the "group."
Now to just decide on the route home.....

So Thursday-Saturday nights at the Omni in Denver, right?
I was on the fence about going to this event, but my roommate from college (who now lives in Denver) came to visit me this week, so I now I really don't have any excuse not to go next year. Like MK, though, I'll probably stick around a couple of extra days after the gathering. No sense driving all that way and not seeing everything there is to see while I'm there!

Hmmm, maybe I should head up by you, that way we can visit one of your dive bars the evening before we're set to depart. Got to get the weekend started off the right way, lol.
