We were at Tail of the Dragon on Monday, June 25, 2007 and unfortunately heard from two independent groups of bikers that someone flipped their Sly Sol on the TotD in the rain.
We were told that it was a driver and was taken from the upturned car and appeared to be only slightly injured. We (TX group) all hope that they are okay and uninjured.
If anyone knows anything about this could you please post the news here? Thanks!!

I was contacted by phone by XMM about the incident.
The party involved was asking that we don't start talking about.
They will post the information when they are ready.

I have heard from this individual and they are doing well in spite of having rolled their Solstice. I will not identify them - I will allow them to either do so or not.
Just let me say this .... this little car is amazing when it comes to saving lives!!!
They walked away from the car, bumped, bruised ... but ALIVE!! For that, I am extremely ThankFUL!!
The car is totaled and pictures will prbly be posted later (for those who can stomach them).
As Devo has said .... lets not speculate on anything but wait for this individual to post when they are ready.
Thanks!

Very glad to hear you are okay and would love to hear what happened. Just to avoid it because I'm sure you will someday hear a story from me about something like this.
Just be careful in the rain. Are you going to get another sol?? Come on, I know you're watching this thread
once again though, glad to hear that the sol is a safe vehicle and you were able to walk away unscathed.
I witnessed a Sol go off the road during one of our meets last year. It taught us, even though we have cars that handle wonderfully, they still obey the laws of physics.
I cannot remember my emotions ever going from total exhilaration and excitement to total fear and anguish in a spit second.
We were pushing our cars to the limit on a very twisty road when the lead car hit some lose dirt. I saw him slide into the soft shoulder and then try to correct his steering. All I saw after that was a cloud of dust. When the dust cleared, I could see two skid marks going off the road where there was a steep embankment. I was sick inside and scared to death to peak over the side. When I did, they where ok. Thank goodness for the quick thinking and driving abilities because instead of trying to turn and avoid going down the side of the hill, he straightened his tires and when with it. He plowed down 30 feet of hillside, through a barbed wire fence and came to rest in a field with a big red bull staring him down.
Now we try to remind people we are out for a fun drive, not qualifying for the pole position.
We had just finish doing parade laps on Laguna Seca Raceway, so you can understand the pent up energy.

I am VERY GLAD to hear that you came out of it with minor injuries! I, like everyone here, am very sorry to hear of your accident. I started this thread, not to "out you" but to confirm that what I had been told was true and that you were not seriously injured!
A car can be replaced, you cannot!! Recover quickly!!
Mods, feel free to lock this thread if you feel it appropriate!

So it was me who flipped their Solstice on the Tail of the Dragon.
One correction to the reported incident - it was not raining at the time of the wreck - although I did get drenched by a brief thunderstorm as I waited for the wrecker to come and haul away my car.
As far as a description of the incident, I was coming up on a left hand curve on the Dragon and took the curve too wide. My right tires went off the pavement into the gravel along the side of the road. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my wheels back onto the road, and the car headed down into a slight ditch and up a sharp incline, which rolled the car over.
When the car came to rest, I was conscious and generally uninjured, but my left forearm was pinned between the top of the headrest and the ground. Luckily for me, a fellow Solstice owner was driving along behind me, and several motortcylists also stopped to help out. After a few moments of panic where I tried to dig the dirt out from around my trapped arm, a group of volunteer helpers gathered around to lift the side of the car up enough so that I could pull my arm out. Once I was unstuck, I was able to crawl free through the passenger door, which my rescuers were able to pull open.
I am amazingly uninjured, other than a little swelling and tenderness in the arm that was pinned. But no broken bones, head trauma, etc. Hardly even any scratches or bruises. My Baby was sacrificied, but gave its life to keep me safe. These cars are just amazing in how well they are designed to save us from injury.
Pictures probably give a better idea of the terrain, so here are a few for those who can handle it...
This is how the car ended up:
What the car looked like after it was flipped back to right-side up:
I'm sure it will be a few weeks before I straighten out the insurance paperwork and get a replacement car. I'll keep you all updated on the status. I will definitely be buying another Solstice, just need to decide if I will get another 2.4L or move up to a GXP.
