Amen to all that, Diane-you were so lucky, and I'm glad Mike was running with you. It could happen to anyone, the edge of the pavement is unforgiving, at best.
I was so glad to hear earlier that you walked away from it, huge wave of relief.
I had a sick feeling it was u! (Sly) Amazing you are OK! The windshield looked like it crumbled like a grahm cracker....Thought there would be more support in it! I am definately gonna take it easier from now on! I would be dead if I were in that car....Glad u are OK! I'll make you a deal on my base! lol
So it was me who flipped their Solstice on the Tail of the Dragon.
One correction to the reported incident - it was not raining at the time of the wreck - although I did get drenched by a brief thunderstorm as I waited for the wrecker to come and haul away my car.
As far as a description of the incident, I was coming up on a left hand curve on the Dragon and took the curve too wide. My right tires went off the pavement into the gravel along the side of the road. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my wheels back onto the road, and the car headed down into a slight ditch and up a sharp incline, which rolled the car over.
When the car came to rest, I was conscious and generally uninjured, but my left forearm was pinned between the top of the headrest and the ground. Luckily for me, a fellow Solstice owner was driving along behind me, and several motortcylists also stopped to help out. After a few moments of panic where I tried to dig the dirt out from around my trapped arm, a group of volunteer helpers gathered around to lift the side of the car up enough so that I could pull my arm out. Once I was unstuck, I was able to crawl free through the passenger door, which my rescuers were able to pull open.
I am amazingly uninjured, other than a little swelling and tenderness in the arm that was pinned. But no broken bones, head trauma, etc. Hardly even any scratches or bruises. My Baby was sacrificied, but gave its life to keep me safe. These cars are just amazing in how well they are designed to save us from injury.
Pictures probably give a better idea of the terrain, so here are a few for those who can handle it...
This is how the car ended up:

I'm sure it will be a few weeks before I straighten out the insurance paperwork and get a replacement car. I'll keep you all updated on the status. I will definitely be buying another Solstice, just need to decide if I will get another 2.4L or move up to a GXP.
WOW!! I am so glad you are ok..Unfortunate for the Sol..but those can be replaced..You can't be!! Glad to have met you at Nationals!!
Thank God you are OK. It's just amazing that you could walk away from that... another point for the Sol.

I just received my calendar this morning and was looking at your shot.....I'm so glad that you are okay, this is a reminder to all of us to be careful, and also a reminder that this car is amazing in accidents. I'm thankful that all you have is bruising - I can only imagine what went thru your mind during that awful few moments.
Your car has been captured in history in the Solstice Gals calendar.....it served you well.
Hope it doesn't take you too long to get another car!

Diane,
We are so thankful you are okay. I agree with Bob (wartie) about seeing the rescue vehicles go past us as we were leaving the other end of the Dragon. We never even thought it might be for one of our group. Take care, give yourself time to heal and then make your choice on which vehicle to get. In the end it was the sacrifice of the car which saved your life and your life is all that matters. You will remain in our prayers.
