First, Thank GOD an your guardian you're okay ......
I think sometimes we receive messages from above to slow down in our life (at least this is the message I got when I saw your totalled car), one of the post said that even those who drive slow will have accidents (that's true) ..... Please, let us be careful when we drive our cars ....
I am very glad you got through uninjured. Fun can turn bad fast on the twisties. I look at those pictures and it only enforces my one big concern with our Solstice. No roll bar. And, as far as I can tell, no way to put one in with our seat/top/rear deck configuration. My wife and Son drive this car. I hope a 'solution' is found soon. Again, Glad you are OK!
Regarding the collapse of the windshield, I have several thoughts.
First is that it was the headrests and the slope of the hood that helped maintain that bubble I was in that saved me. I didn't really need to rely on the windshield as a structural support. I think the windshield is intended to absorb alot of the force of an impact the same way crumple zones in the front and back of the car are meant to absorb the shock in frontal and rear collisions. And yes, it was probably a VERY good thing that I am short and my head does not normally extend higher than the headrest while I am driving.
Second is that because of the shape of the dashboard and the driver's cockpit area, the windshield did not collapse nearly as low on the driver's side as it did on the passenger side. If I had a passenger in the car they probably wouldn't have fared as well as
I did.
Here's a pic of the car where you can see that even collapsed, the driver's side windshield is much higher than the passenger side.
Diane, all I can say is that Carol and I are so relieved that you are ok and not seriously injured. We learned of the accident from a motorcycleist staying at the Microtel who had been present shortly after your accident, and had mentioned that the Solstice had flipped upside down, but he didn't know if the occupant or occupants were injured. God speed in your physical and emotional recouvery from this terrible accident. You definitely have a Guardian Angel in Heaven.

Holy FUDGE! (only I didn't say fudge).
You are one lucky woman!
My : Make sure your next Solstice has ESC. If you get a GXP, it's standard, but still optional on the base, and worth EVERY LAST CENT to choose that option, IMHO.
ESC is designed to aid the driver even in changing coefficients (like gravel) and has been estimated that making it mandatory may be more effective in terms of saving lives than ABS, Seat Belts and Airbags COMBINED. It does this by reducing the chances of 'off road accidents' from happening by giving the driver a bit more time to get the car under control and aiding in maintaining vehicular stability.
Diane,
I have no idea what to say other than WOW... Shayna and I are so glad your okay, minus the bumps!! We love you and hope you feel a little better soon! WOW!!!

I know I'm paranoid---maybe we should dull down the details of what occured just prior to the accident to protect the driver. I have heard rumors that some insurance companies and corporations search for this type of information in order to deny claims.

We are so happy that you are OK. We just got back from nationals today and are exploring the Forum. We didn't make the Tail run, but did the Wine run (we had the directions from Friday) and the roads were still fun......I did have the rear slide out from under me two times on switchbacks when I hit gas too hard in 3rd gear (the roads had a lite wetness on them) so I can only imagine what you felt.
Last year, the white band, this year the roll-over.........you've got to be careful.
