This post is for those who haven't been to Fontana.

Gas

Fontana Village has a two pump Texaco station on 28 called HellBender Pitstop. With the current gas situation it should be noted that gas at HellBender is $1.00 more than in Robbinsville, NC, which is 15miles or 30 minutes away.

Alcohol

Fontana is one of the few places in the area where alcohol can be purchased, also Tapoco Lodge at the foot of the Dragon. Fontana also has a bar/lounge called the Bear's Den next to the Mountview Bistro in the Fontana Lodge. RMFNSKY tried to have his bed moved to the Bear's Den last year. During the Meet and Greet, we'll have access to the Den for those who want alcoholic beverages. Likewise during Dinner, since the Den is across the hall from the Carolina Room.

Web Access

For those with laptops, there is WiFi in the lobby around the fireplace.



Cell Service

Definitely wanted to pass this along. Quite a few times last year, I heard people asking the Fontana staff where the best place was to get a cell phone signal. There is practically NO CELL PHONE SERVICE at Fontana!!! The closest place told to us to get a signal is at the top of Fontana Dam. So those who need to keep in touch with home, plan accordingly.

Last note

Those of you coming in from points north and west, pay attention to your map into the area. Unless you decide to come in via the Cherohala SkyWay to Robbinsville or around the eastern side of the Great Smoky Mountains Nat'l Park, the only other way to Fontana from the Knoxville area is through the Dragon. Had a couple of people last year say they didn't realize that would happen.

Well I had put ya down on paper as EASY-GOING just havent updated this list.....

We just got back our GXP from BnT performance here in Wilmington N.C. and we were planning a trip up there this week when I logged onto the Forum TONIGHT AND SAW THE DRAGON EVENT!!!Kim and I have been so busy w/ our horse farm as well as our schedules as nurses. We missed last yr because of our schedule but I think I can manipulate a change in my time off from the ER/Helicopter schedule and make it up there for the event. Kim and I know the area pretty well because we have been hiking around there for approx 15 yrs---also being sports car fanatics; we have driven the DRAGON several times in different vehicles.......we would love to be a part of this event.
