Yes, I think so too. Dave from DDMworks is also working on another track.
Just a little over 6 month now. Things are starting to come together, we are starting to get merchandise in, like a TV set and all kinds of other things.

I talked to the owner of the Myrtle Beach Speedway today about doing something at his track.He is willing to let us use the track for the Friday of our 2009 S.E Regional Meet from 4pm-9pm.
He will set up:
* A road course (.538 mile asphalt tri-oval)
* Drifting course
*Stage Drag races on the front stretch from turn 4 to the start finish line.
Cost: $20.00 per car
and $5.00 for spectators
What do you think?
I think that's a great activity line-up at a GREAT price. If you're taking names of those interested in participating in this - take mine!
For the road course portion, will they be requiring some sort of rollbar? Will helmets be needed? I haven't read subsequent posts yet. I got too excited about responding.

Rusty, I'll have to get back to you on the helmet and roll bar. I will be meeting with the track owner sometime this week and will let you know then.

That's fine. The helmet I have, but the bar I'd neet to get in place.
Rusty,
When I talk to him the other day he mention that the Mustang Car Club last year put on a show at the track he said they had around 200 cars and I won't think they all had helmets or roll bars. he also said there were over 800 spectators.

THAT WILL BE GREAT!!!!We are running the Kentucky track Nov 1st and will post pictures, that should help everyone see what great fun it will be.....

It partially depends on the sanctioning body with whom the track is affiliated, and partially on how the track owners/managers view the car for the event. At I-75 Raceway, at the first National Meet in Kansas City, helmets were not required because they used an official lead vehicle (a truck, no less) which kept everyone at save speeds. A Mustang event I attended at Lime Rock Park required helmets for everyone and rollbars for convertibles because there was no lead vehicle.
Some drivers, not used to the feeling of a car's suspension taking a 'set' in a corner (where the rear squats down and shifts to the outside of the corner), won't drive hard enough for that to happen because it feels to them like the car is going to spin out. Those people would never need a helmet or rollbar. Those drivers also hold back those who have experienced the suspension 'set' and know how to keep the car under control beyond the speed at which it happens. If a track experience is made available, I'd suggest groupings of drivers based on their track experiences. Just a thought to consider.

That's a great suggestion for creating interest! Along with those pics, let us know what was required in safety equipment and how they ran the event (see above).

Rusty, We met with the track people yesterday and I asked him about helmets and roll bars.He said they are not required that you won't be getting up that much speed , but they will have helmets to rent if it makes those that would feel safer using one. He made a suggestion that we might want to hire a company out of Charlotte,NC to come down setting up the course,cones, timing lights,helmets.etc. he said the cost would run about $400.00 thats in addition to the $20.00 per car for the use of the track. Do you think that those who want to use the track would be willing to share in the extra cos
