MEET: Corner Stone Square Macclenny
(I-10 west to exit 335. Then HWY 121 North to Corner Stone Square)
TIME: 9:00am -Leave Macclenny at 9:15
DRIVE: The Refuge is 41 miles from Macclenny, about 50 minutes. We will drive North on SR 121, crossing over into Georgia about 10 miles from Macclenny. Except for passing through St. George, Georgia, the ride will be almost completely through wooded areas.
COST: Park admission is $5 per car. A Duck pass or Golden Eagle Pass waives the entrance fee.
A group price of $25 per person covers lunch and the boat ride. Cash, Visa, or other credit card is accepted.
LUNCH: Camp Cornelia Café will provide lunch of a hamburger, potato salad, baked beans, peach cobbler, ice cream and tea. This will be served outside in the picnic area.
BOAT RIDE: The boat ride is 90 minutes, covers 2 miles down the canal and ½ mile out onto the prairie.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: An 8-mile Swamp Island Drive, canoe rental, the award winning film at the Visitor’s Center, the Chesser Island Homestead, the ¾ mile boardwalk which ends at the 50-foot observation tower and numerous nature trails.
RETURN TO MACCLENNY: For those interested - evening meal at Pier 6 Seafood.
DIRECTIONS TO MACCLENNY: From Jacksonville take I-10 West to exit 335. This is the second Macclenny exit. At the stop sign, turn left, North on SR 121. Landmarks are the Wendys on the right, Hardees on the left.
At Willis Hodge Road (landmark: McDonalds on right and Winn Dixie on left), turn left into Cornerstone Square. Turn right into the shopping area. Landmark is the Food Lion grocery store. We will be at the North end of the parking lot, by the “old Wal-Mart.”
