Debbie and I are planning a run in the upper
Northwest part of Illinois for the Fall of 2008.

I'm in the preliminary stages and plan on
pre-running this many times to find the best roads.

We did our first pre-run yesterday to make sure this was
Solstice worthy. It is.

If you have never been to Galena, it would best be described as "Quaint".
Lots of antique and specialty shops, art galleries, restaurants and bars.

This could be either a one day or two day event depending on
how much time people would like to spend in Galena and how
many interested participants.

Apple River Canyon State Park is close by, and I hope to incorporate
a stop there for possible photo ops.

Please post if you are interested.

It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

One road we will definitely be on is Stagecoach Trail
which stars in Lena. It's a rolling road that passes
through sleepy little towns, farms and beautiful meadows.

This will take us to Council Hill Road, which is seldom
used (except by those who live on it) and has some great
twisting two lane roads. Very fun.

This is near towns called Scales Mound / Charles Mound which has the highest
elevation in Illinois. Breath taking.

Also, South of Galena is Blackjack road. Another
fun twisty road that should make this trip worthy.

I'll post the full route and times as it progresses.

I'm iffy. My only free weekend right now until Dec. is Sept 15-16th. If it's in October, I could only do a Sunday - 10/21 (and that's a maybe) or 10/28.

Otherwise, I'd probably be in!

Depending on how things are going, I might be up for it. Hard to plan that far in advance, we're talking 2008, right?

Okay, I was surprised at how she knew exactly what was going on for then.

Blackjack is a must.

It's a two lane road and we had Ma and Pa Kettle
in front of us for the first couple of miles.
