Cool Breezes Surf Drive--Sunset, PCH [WCKCC So Cal Coast, August 9]

Hi folks!

We're getting ready for another drive on the coast. We've been out and about in the mountains a bit in our earlier runs and the cool breezes seem pretty inviting as summer heats up.

Since this one's fairly local, we'll keep it short and start out after lunch on Saturday August 9.

I was considering starting at La Strada International Deli: LA STRADA International Deli

Are there some locals who can verify that there's a big parking lot across the street from La Strada?

Also, we need some suggestions for where to stop for dinner.

There's a couple of options that come to mind:
  • Neptune's Net (Seafood out on PCH itself)
  • 1000 Oaks Meat Locker (Ribs & BBQ)
  • Dominick's Italian Restaurant in Oxnard

Suggestions for venues are welcome.

Ahhh, I can smell the sea air now.

Mmmmm... Dominicks's is my choice! Great food....

The parking might be kinda small, I'll have to check and see what it looks like on a Saturday. Do you have any idea what time-frame we would be looking at?

I do know that Neptunes's Net is usally PACKED on Sat, and Sun.
1000 Oaks Meat Locker is nice but it would be like going from the air conditioning to the oven. :-(

Agreed on the 1000 Oaks part--it would be more than a bit warm in 1000 Oaks.

Probably around 4 to 5 PM to get into Oxnard as a first guess.

I am gonna try and make this one.
I have passed by Neptunes Net so many times but have never stopped there to eat. We would really turn a lot of heads there but the parking might be a challenge.

I've been there once to eat. Good food but it's really packed this time of year. We're going to try and make this too. It's semi-local so it should be easier to make.

I passed by yesterday on my way back from San Pedro, (Catalina trip). It was CRAZY packed. No way we could stop there on a weekend.

You just gotta love this enthusiasm!

Yup. It sure will happen. It's just under 2 weeks away.

As I mentioned, we'll do this one in the afternoon, after lunch at the Cafe that I suggested, La Strada. I left the precise starting point deliberately open to suggestions from locals, in case someone had a better starting location than La Strada.

The precise timing will depend on which route and dinner venue we select.

So far, this is looking like a continental sort of day, with an international themed deli for lunch, and an Italian restaurant for dinner. Yum!

Basically, count on lunch right around midday at La Strada, then we'll wind our way out to Oxnard.

That's pretty much the basic plan that I laid out in the first post.

The reason that I haven't set the details in stone was that I was looking for some input from locals before I carved the marble tablet.

It's probably obvious, but what's point B? I'm not sure if I can make it at the start of the route, but point B is around 10 minutes away from my house, and I can probably meet up with you guys if you are stopping somewhere around there.

Point B is Malibu Lake. You're welcome to join us. The tricky part with meeting us will be that our arrival time will depend on many factors including traffic. My guess is that we would be there no earlier than about 2:30, but we might be as late as 3:30.

I'm not sure if we will actually be able to stop at Malibu Lake, because it's a residential area, and parking might be an issue.

My hope is that we will be able to stop at Zuma / Point Dume since the parking lots look fairly large. However, being Saturday afternoon in the Summer, I can't promise parking.

Cell coverage is a bit spotty up there as well, but I'll send you my cell number by PM so you can let us know where you are.

See you Saturday!
