Question for you guys who have taken their kappa cars out to Streets:
I just talked to Jim from the track and he said their policy was to allow no convertables (top up or down) on the track without rollover protection like a roll bar or cage. Have you guys had any trouble with this? They said if they catch you on the track without the proper rollover protection they will kick you off. We have a track day at the Streets on June 16th which is normally offered to just our Lotus customers but we have invited and already had some kappa cars signed up. I dont us to run into a situation where these drivers cant get on the track!

Brandon,
It was kewl meeting you at LV
I've been out in the Streets of Willow 2X with Danny McKeever rsing and not had any problem. If you are running under another group or the track itself, you mighr have a problem. I would call Raven Wing at 951-817-5644 or Danny McKeever at 888-948-4888
Good luck
Joe

Just signed up for Saturday. Me and Soul Food will be there. I was thinking about coming in on Friday night. Anyone got an extra bed?

YES, this is wise. A good night's rest before a track day is more than just prudent, it's essential for you to get the most out of your experience.
Driving when your tired, even if it's just because you get up very early to drive in from a fair distance away, will hamper your ability to learn, not to mention decreasing your ability to make good decisions on the track.
This advice comes straight from Carrol Smith's book.
Sounds like you found a room, and your plan to drive in on Friday is a sound decision.

More to the point, the Elise is a targa with built-in factory roll-over protection. So, the Lotuses will be fine.
The Raven Wing event is done under the auspices of the the track's own school, "Danny McKeever's Fast Lane Driving School". The unique aspect of this partnership is the acceptance of non-roll bar equipped Miatas and other open top cars like the Kappa Platform cars for entry in the school.
Open track days like Brandon's are a bit different, and the usual rules apply: "open top cars must have 4 point roll bars or built-in factory roll-over protection similar to the Z4 hoops, or Volvo pop-up roll-over protection."
Again, you'll want to make some more phone calls. I am hopeful that you will be allowed to have Kappas without roll bars, but again, it is rare. It would be way better to find out, and you're already making some of the right phone calls.
If I had to guess, I'd say you'll have to keep the event to targa topped and coupe vehicles, unless you can get the school to operate the event like Raven Wing does. If you do get Danny's school to work with you... Well, I'll probably make sure I have the day off of work, and make the trek up to the high dessert...

Hey, ClearBra, glad to see that I'll get a chance to meet you at Willow Springs next Saturday. I guess you got a room. Where are you staying? I am staying at the Best Western on Sierra Highway in Lancaster. Not the best hotel, but adequate and inexpensive. There are usually several other auto aficionados who stay there when the Fast Lane school is 'in session'. I think Capt_Kludge is staying there too. There is another hotel in town where some of the 'students' sometimes stay. I think it would be kinda fun if all the Kappa guys/gals could get together somewhere Friday night for some social bench racing and lie swapping.
See you there.

The Streets of Willow - Willow Springs Next Saturday [May 17, 2008 Rosamond, CA]
These are the Kappa dudes who I believe will be at Willow Springs next Saturday (and some Sunday too) to optimize their Kappa experience and get a real adrenalin rush. I also think that most will be arriving in town Friday night to stay in Lancaster.
This will be a pretty good Kappa showing, considering that this is an event set up primarily for Miatas (Ravenwing Performance) limited to 30 cars. We can expect a potpourri of other rides there - Mazdas, Lotuses, BMWs, Vettes, Nissans, and what have you. Always interesting and a surprise at what may show up to participate.
If you are attending, why not post a message here (and on the Sky forum too) to confirm and let us know where you are staying? Maybe we can have an unofficial Friday night Kappa social event at one of the hotels in town. I believe that several of us will be staying at the Best Western on Sierra Highway in Lancaster.
Interesting side note: We will be driving on The Streets of Willow. This is the same track that was featured in the recent Speed TV show, "Set Up" where the Solstices raced.
