I havnt talked to Crimson about the details yet. I've never organized anything like this, and i've never been to rim of the world myself, so i wouldnt know where to start. I'd like to see suggestions from people that have been there before
No problem. We can spend some time on this either Thursday evening the 11th or over the weekend.

As I said, we'll probably make this one an "after lunch" affair, so you should be able to make it. We'll also try to make it a late lunch with the actual drive in the later afternoon.
I'm still hoping that I can get off the boat, get home, get my travelling companions to the airport and make it to THIS cruise in time.
So noon or 1pm is still cutting it too close for you ?
As of now i dont believe there is a set time. The drive isnt too long so even if we started later, we'd still have plenty of time. Let us know what time you THINK you can make it, and we'll try to work from there.

I could make a noon departure from Orange County a reality. That would put me in the Riverside area around 1 o'clock.

O.k. I'm approaching Zero Hour. I get on a cruise ship in about 36 hours. I will have no internet access or cell phone capabilities until I get back on the 21st. Forget about why I don't have a BlackBerryTREOlaptopWiFisatellitephone gadget. I just don't.
Is this road trip still going to be a reality?

Yes, it is a reality. Just got back from the movies tonight, but I'll post up a route description tomorrow afternoon, so you'll be able to print it out and take it with you.
We will try to schedule the run so that you can make it starting from OC about 12:30 to give you some extra time.
Have a wonderful cruise, and we'll get the meeting point and time posted tomorrow afternoon.

Reason: Fixed Google Map Link.... Google seems to be having amnesia and can't find street addresses in Big Bear!
My son and I just did a version of this for Dinner tonight. We started in Victorville, up to crestline, over to Big Bear for Dinner at the Sizzler, then down to home through Lucerne Valley. 2.5 hours of great roads with the top down. Perfect weather. Somewhat chilly in Big Bear at 8:15PM, but that's what the heaters are for, right? If this is going to happen, my wife and I will be there.
BTW, you're missing out on some other great roads near there too.. Cajon to Silverwood, North Hesperia, Highway 330 from Running Springs to Highland to name 3...

Welcome to the forum!!
Well, it's going to happen, so I guess we'll see you there!
Actually, we did the route you suggest in June. We started in Highland, went up the 330, across to Crestline, down to Silverwood Lake, then over to Cajon and on to Wrightwood via the road in the San Andreas Rift Valley itself (Lone Pine Canyon Rd and Big Pine Highway) for a late lunch, then on out to the high dessert and back through the winding Upper Big Tajunga canyon up into the Angeles Crest, and would up in Highland Park (founded by the same folks who founded the city of Highland) and ended with a stop at Galco's Old World Market (Galco's Soda Pop Stop).
You're absolutely right. The roads are indeed splendid, and I look forward to doing them again some time soon.
Now, that's NOT the route we're taking this time, we're going the other way, and that will make stopping at the turn-outs along the Rim of the World Highway much easier. We also need to spice it up a bit.
330 is fun, so too is the assent up High Gear Hill (Hwy 18) with it's 4 lane twisty road with slightly larger radius turns. It's a different experience, and since we did the 330 in June, we're trying to mix it up a bit.
The long range 7 day forecast calls for Sunny with a High of 79 in Arrowhead (Perfect for Ice Cream), and 75 in Big Bear.
Anyway, look forward to meeting you Sunday Sept 21. See you there!
