Reason: Fixed Google Map Link.... Google seems to be having amnesia and can't find street addresses in Big Bear!
FYI the google route link doesn't work. it shows a topo map with no waypoints and says:
"We could not calculate directions between 2180 N Waterman Ave. San Bernardino, CA 92404 (Baker's Drive Thru) and 350 Alden Rd Big Bear Lake, CA 92315 (B's Backyard BBQ)."
Actually, if you use MapQuest instead, we can download it directly to our GPS's. Ahhh, technology! (At least if you have a Garmin gps and download the plugin.)

You know, I tested the link extensively before posting it... Google Maps seems to have forgotten how to navigate to certain surface streets in Big Bear Lake.
So, I simplified the link, and it seems to be working now--I sent it to the intersection instead of the address.
I also made sure that I put in the Lat,Lon coordinates of Red Rock Wall instead of relying on google maps to remember it.
OK, the map is working. Thanks. OK I'm going. I know right where that Bakers is. It's right across the street from a Hospital and a Cemetery. So if you eat an artery clogging burger...well, you get the idea. lol.

Yup, I did see that... It's pretty funny, really.
Because we chose Sunday, that eliminated my first and second choice restaurants which were closer to the base of the Mountain, but a 1950's Drive-in is truly classic for a car meet.

See you there!
There is also a Coco's restaurant right across the street (northside) with a fairly large parking lot. That Bakers is one of the older ones around. If parking gets too crowded, I suggest staging in the large one behind the Coco's. It's a short walk across to Bakers.

Sounds great. Thanks for the tip.
Coco's is kinda unremarkable as a restaurant (no real history or personality / charm) so I ruled it out, and went for the 50's drive through experience for its long history and deeply embedded car culture ethos.
Hmmm.... That sounded a bit too philosophical and highfalutin.... I'll try again:
No Coco's--too plain.
Chose a 50's drive through--it's part of our car culture.

I guess you don't have any Bakers where you are. They are all kinda the same, just plain simple fast food places. Haven't been to that one in awhile, but don't expect carhops, juke boxes, etc. Ruby's is more 50's style than Bakers. But having said that they do make a great burger and real vanilla shakes. And btw, they didn't have "drive thru" chains until the mid 60's. I was working at an independent fast food place (the owner was also a Baker's manager) when I heard about this great new innovation at a new place called Jack-in-the-Box! You must mean "drive-in" restaurant at which you parked your car toward the restaurant and a car hop came out. I remember those well.
IF you want a real 50's plus experience, you can go downtown in San Bernardino where they will be finishing the last day of the annual Route 66 Rendezvous. We will be far enough North of that, so I don't think we will have a problem with traffic, etc. In fact, hopefully Bakers will be less crowded than usual. Here's a link: 19th Annual Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous
But now you have me curious, so I am going to drive over to that Baker's and see if they have done something to it to make it 50's-ish.
