WCKCC So Cal Drive Sunday May 20: Ontario BBQ & Big Bear Loop

Well, it's that time. Spring's in full swing, the weather's warm, and it's time for a drive!!

Sunday May 20th, the West Coast Kappa Car Club will have another of our one day meets.

I thought we could get some ideas going for where folks would like to go in or around Southern California.

The event structure will be:
  • Need to start somewhere leaving there at about 11:00 on Sunday.
  • Need to drive for about 90 minutes until lunch at about 12:30
  • Need to stop at a good place for lunch (with a meeting room where we can have a club meeting during lunch)
  • Optional drive afterwards for a little ways (could include a stop at some place like the Aquarium or the Queen Mary, a ghost town, etc.)

So, if you've got some ideas where you might want to go, post up!

I was thinking about Big Bear... Up old 330, along the Rim of the World Highway, Lunch in Big Bear, and back down the South East canyons.

Rim of the world sounds cool.

There are plenty of great roads, and views, along Rim of the World. I'll check out possible routes to get the timing close. Any ideas would be very helpful, especially when it comes to places to stop and eat. Any ideas would be welcome, though.

Even DMV thinks my Solstice is hot; the plate they gave her says "SXY."

Thanks, Bill! I just spoke with Bill, and he will be taking the helm on the planning and coordination for this event.

Rim of the World is great, but other areas are fair game as well, so those of you reading this, if you have any other suggestions and ideas for entirely different drives in any area of Southern California, let's hear-em! Bill will be working with you to select and hammer out the route.

Again, thanks Bill for stepping up to coordinate this event.

Who's going?

Oops, didn't mean to make it sound like the plans were that far along. I don't want to limit any of the possibilities, yet.

Some of the possibilities Vincent and I have discussed, however briefly, are doing a portion of Rte 66, &/or PCH, Rim of the World, Angeles Crest, and Ortega Hwy. Any additional ideas as to location/route are welcome.

The first question is, who wants to go? Once we have an idea of who, and how many, will be joining this trek, we can figure out where the day will take us.

Carpe turba - seize the traffic

Thank you for the warning, Carpe Diem. It looks as though the construction on Ortega Hwy will not let us have as much fun as possible. Even though traffic will probably not be that bad on a Sunday morning, there will still be closed lanes.

I was looking around, and I found another possibility. Add the Pines to Palms run - Banning to Palm Springs through Idyllwild.

Cool, I'd love to attend a WCKCC drive before I head off to the Vegas meet the following weekend. I'll see if I can get that Sunday free.

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm trying to see if I can get a bunch of SoCal Sol's to the Irving car show on Sat Morning. More info at Orange County Car Meet

No hi-jacking!!!

With only 4 people posting on this thread, there isn't much to hi-jack.

Get more people interestd in going, and we can call it even.

So Cal Meet

Hi Crimson, left you a PM.

But I will go over it again here.

Meet at Castaic Recreation Area or nearby (Vallencia Mall)
Lake Hughes RD (NORTH)
Pine Canyon RD (RIGHT) turns into Lake Elizabeth Rd.
San Franciscito RD (RIGHT)
Spunky Canyon RD (LT)
Bouquet Canyon RD (LT)
Elizabeth Lake RD (RIGHT)
HWY 14 (SOUTH)
Sierra Hwy (WEST)
Winery on LEFT
continue on sierra hwy to Agua Dulce Canyon RD to meet back up with HWY 14

Total Milage Apx. 70 time 2 hours

We could detour in Palmdale to hit Medranos in Lancaster for lunch, May be able to get a large area for meeting. Then head to the Winery (Antelope Valley Winery). Its Sunday so brunch may take up the meeting area. But I can check with the owner to see if he can hold an area for us.

I can also lengthen or shorten the drives as needed. How ever roads in the area are limited.

God Bless, CADREAMIN (Wayne and Laura)

I wish I could join you all for this run. We are celebrating my nephews graduation that day, and it is a bit far from San Luis Obispo. I am sure it will be a blast.
