Folks,
I went out to O'Keefe Ranch this morning and asked about a chance to enter thier grounds and park adjacent their historic buildings for an hour - for a photo opp and possible calendar placement. They were very accomodating - here's the response.
"We would be pleased to welcome your group on August 9th and will expect you by 10 am. The Manager has no problem with the cars being parked on the grounds near the heritage buildings for one hour for photo op.
Do you know if they'll charge admission for us at O'Keefe? I just entered my name and e-mail on their site, and it's for reduced admission.....not sure what the deal is, but I guess I'll figure it out when I get an e-mail.
FYI they're having a Viper show there from noon - 2pm another day. They have quite a few events!
Now I might have to find me some chaps........(the pants, not the men)!!!

No admission for us - for the photo op. If we wanted to hang around and go through the buildings, displays, etc, ya - we should then pay admission, but frankly, I doubt there will be time for all that.
For you folks who are booked into the Sandman in Vernon Aug 8 & 9, you will be pleased to know we have 10 underground spots RESERVED for Solstices. Apparently, they don't normally allow u/g parking for the hotel, as it is part of the suites (monthly rentals) business. In this case, they recognize the car is an attention getter, and that we will want it clean each day, so they have allowed us access.
U/G is still not "secured" parking, but (IMHO) it will be better than outside in the Sandman/Dennys parking lot.

Hi Folks,
Here's an update on the winery tour piece. I went to Grey Monk and an adjacent winery called Arrowleaf. Honestly, I didn't even know Arrowleaf existed, as it's been a few years since I was at Grey Monk. The trip was about 70km return to do both wineries from Vernon. This is a great area of lakes and viewpoints, so I think it will make a nice day of photo ops along the way. I think it works with teh Saturday agenda, and hope its not too much driving for y'all.
Grey Monk indicated that August weekend tours may be difficult, as they get crushed with tourists that time of year. They said it's best to keep tour sizes small and to try to arrive early. They wouldn't schedule a "booked" tour on a Saturday for us, but would allow tastings and will tour us (space permitting) on the hour, every hour, along with the regular masses. They were sold out of their acclaimed Oddessy Merlot already.
Arrowleaf was much more accomodating. They indicated they had acommodated several car clubs over the years, with cars up to 75 in number being no problem. They gave me a contact name which I need to book with, but stated it was a formality so they could provide adequate staffing on that day. They have several great whites and the owner was a tad dissapointed when I asked for reds. Nonetheless, he acommodated and I sampled two, and really liked them both. I thought you folks would appreciate this one;
The other wineries I mentioned before are north, and maybe a touch further, so I think this is our best bet.

As always - your thoughts are appreciated.
Solstice wine - Got to LOVE it!
Can't wait

You're gonna love our other stop then. Downtown Vernon there is a company called Okanagan Spirits. They make a product called Absinthe, which is a fruit Brandy of sorts. Many different flavours. They'll give us a tour of their Still, and process, were they ferment down fresh Okanagan fruit into this remarkable alixir. Free tasting too !
check out Okanagan Spirits - Taboo Absinthe and Aquavit, Exquisite Fruit Spirits, Grappa and Eau de Vie
BTW folks,
I registered myself for the car show yesterday. I'm # 065. They gave me a sheet with event times on it.
We can begin to park downtown Friday as early as 3:00pm and as late as 8:00pm. Activities run until 11:00pm
Saturday's activities could start as early as 8:00am and run to 7:00pm in the park, followed by a twighlight cruise. The Poker run for those interested is at 10:00am til 11:00am and the BBQ is scheduled for 4:00pm
Sunday - Gates open in the big park at 7:00am and close at noon. Activities run until 3:00pm but you must be parked before noon to get your car in.
I'm thinking our modified schedule can be nicely massaged to fit with all the above.
Odd, Absinthe or Absinth is a also called "green fairy" made from wormwood. Similar effect as THC (no idea what that is ) And is illegal in most of the united states.
Sucks to be them.

Opps, I should have checked that page prior......same thing. I've drank it before, but never prepared correctly, just might have to check that out.
I have played with the Green Fairy......it is an aquired taste but lots of fun. I even have my very own absinthe spoon.
I am sure you will have fun with the green fairy too. Lots of commercially available ones lack the wormwood but if you read the label, it will tell you.
And you are right - it is banned in the US (hence the ones sans the wormwood) Eastern Europe makes some pretty wicked absinthe though.
Let me know how you like it (or not!)
