OK, here are some pics of the top of the oem shocks. Are these crimp tops? If so, they cannot be revalved I am told. Can someone more experienced than me determine if these are crimp tops?

In my posting rules box it still states that I may not post attachments!
Dasto - only founding members can post attachments - we underlings must use other programs such as Putfile or Photobucket to insert pictures.
Go to putfile.com sign up for an account, upload your pictures,
then come back here to post them use the icon up top that looks like the mountian in the square - paste the pictures url - and the picture will appear in your post.

Definately a crimp top...however when they say "not rebuildable", I'm sure people mean not rebuildable by YOU. I'm sure that if you sent the shocks into Bilstien they could revalve/rebuild them for you as they would have the proper machinery.
I don't know this for sure....but it only makes sense.

Actually not. The top is staked (aka crimped, or "weld-ups" or "welded units") and there is no place to add gas charging (upwards of 150 PSI, maybe as high as 350 PSI Nitrogen).
In addition, since these are not meant to be torn apart, the valve is not held together with a nut, it is kinda staked or riveted, and can't be taken apart, even if you could get the shock apart.
If you really need Bilstein units for re-valving, contact them and try to get a set of what are called "take-aparts", and while you are at it, buy a set with a much lower snap ring and compatible/adjustable spring seat... but be prepared... ($$?)

Actually it's the opposite. You may be able to rebuild them if you are skilled enough to be able to cut and re-weld the tops.
Bilstein will not touch them.

Since this is a parts bin car....are these shocks used on any other cars, or is this one of the unique parts?
No matter the amount of shared parts, the shocks are normally tuned diferent for each model. Each car is shock tuned for the "feel" the factory wants for that specific car.
Even on the same model it's not unusal for a Manual and Automatic to have different shocks (different part #s)

I think the general tube and maybe the top mount are shared with the Trailblazer/Envoy, but the tube length and lower attachment are specific to kappa.
