Turbocharged 3800 V6 swap is in progress, even before I've laid eyes on the Sky...

Sky Captain, Why??? A V6 is going to be just as hard as an LS1 and I know you can get an LS1 for just as cheap as an old school Iron 3800. Are you going to cannibalize your GP?

Where ??? I know a handfull of places I can a get 3800 S/C Series II w low miles for around 1k. LS1's tend to be over 2k.... at least anywhere I can find them..... also New / Rebuilt 3800's are around 2k or less.... I've seen lots of LS1's for 3k-4k.

Not saying it isn't true, But I'd like to know where.... I'll probably just rip the motor from my GTP and throw it into a sky.... But an LS1 Powered Solstice for under 5k extra would be nice.

I voted GXP... I think the poll could use a seperate line for GXP since it is factory, and another for aftermarket turbo since it will most likely go onto the 2.4L engine. SloslowGTP, I can edit the poll to seperate the two out if you agree.

[edit: We did change the poll to seperate GXP from Aftermarket turbo system. At the time there were 3 votes for the combined category (other than my vote). If any of you 3 posted for aftermarket turbo, post in the thread to let us know. Thanks!]

I have a $500 LS1 in the garage with 20,000 miles on it, it's a '99 but it still is a 345 horse motor. I bought it from a local buddy of mine. $1,500 direct from the auto recyclers is usually the norm.

How else are you going to get 345 stock horses for $1,500-$3,000?

1. Personal preference. This alone is justification enough...
2. Personal experience in modding.
3. Starting a business to do kits for it, and the v8 market is already flooded with reputable businesses that would crush me in the v8 market since they have the recognizable name and I would be just a lil ol startup...
4. The 3800 fits in OTHER CARS that the LS engines won't... I'm not just doing the Kappa platform...
5. Because I love the look on the faces of people with highly modded v8s when you spank them with an old school v6... and before you try to say that doesn't happen I got two words for you: GRAND NATIONAL. Oh here's a couple more: TOYOTA SUPRA.

Will I sell as many kits in the Kappa world as the v8 boys? Hell no, and I probably won't get the same amount of "respect" either. But no matter what, #1 is justification enough...

And BTW, it looks like my first engine is gonna cost me ~$600 for a low-miles beauty since I don't need the supercharger. Try to get an LS for that...

EDIT: and one more thing. My kit will work for a bunch of other v6's as well, so people who are going to cannibalize cars they've wrecked will come to me. I can gaurantee you that nobody is going to cannabalize their corvette or GTO to upgrade their Kappa...

I did, $500 remember
Remember that Grand Nationals and Supras are turbo charged buddy.

Good luck on your busines! Just make sure everything makes sense, personal preference is fine for you but it definetly does not create a competitive product by itself

Anyway if you want some start up/aftermarket advice shoot me a PM.

Once Skycap gets into a V6 swap, he should be able to confirm or deny this, however, it could be a big factor for the DIY person. The LSX and V8 swaps require moving underhood components around, some alterations to the steering system, and some alterations to the chassis. Not sure how the V6 will compare, but if it avoids some of these issues it has the potential of being considerably easier.

Yes, but would you sell it to me for that? If so I'll buy it from you today! (my fiero is getting an LS swap as soon as Archie starts selling the kit...) And maybe you missed where I said turbocharged 3800 swap

Supra engine is a twin turbo inline 6. No comparison to a supercharged v6.

The skyline GTR is also a twin turbo'd inline 6 as well.

I've never been a big fan of V6's or V8's, but it's good to see someone doing something different. If it costs less and you end up getting similar performance, I'd rather go that route rahter than paying an arm and a leg for something similar.

It is to bad that no one will ever try to install the I6 Vortec 4200 in the Solstice, this Eng. at 270/275 has so much more potential for this car than the I4 Ecotec.

Because that engine is extremely tall. The I-4 Ecotec has A LOT of potential. A proper turboed Ecotec would be better IMO because it would weigh less and actually fit
