For everybody that keeps on bringing up the 4.2L truck motor here are a couple pics to illustrate why this truck motor is only used on one platform.
#1 it's tall, #2 it's long:

Exactly. And notice that the front axles of the Trailblazer go through the oil pan. This engine is pretty tall and long. I would be greatly suprised if you could get it under the Sol's hood. Not to mention the weight penalty.

Don't ya just love how this forum likes to crap on people who think outside the box, only to be proven wrong time and time again...

I think it's about time for another long term hiatus for me...

Bye.

Looks like you would need a 12" induction hood

Oh come on, there is nothing wrong with constructive feedback. When I'm wrong I appreciate being corrected. If somebody has an idea they probably want to know if it's a good idea. This board is actually pretty civil; stay away from the Mustang or Camaro boards, talk about a blood bath.

Nobody was flaming you, we're just giving you advice. I would hate to spend a lot of money trying to put something together that was doomed from the start.

I know you were not flaming him, but to say it will fail is also not true, also I am the one that has brought it up together with another person, SkyCaptain is a 3.8 V6 proponent and he feels very strongly about that setup.
The actual length of this Eng.(Vortec 4200) is 37.5" and measured against the ecotech as it is install on the Solstice it would clear the radiator with no trouble. The height is a different issue been at 27.4" but there are ways to deal with that as well.

One of my points of getting this car was the better MPG rating than V-8s etc. I would only go with a Turbo charged version if the MPG was the same. Its got plenty of pep and a joy to drive.

Which V8s get bad mileage?
Hey my Camaro gets about 17/28, the Vettes are rated at 18/28.

The Solstice gets pretty crappy mileage for a four cylinder with 20/28, the Cobalts for example get 25/34.

I hope you didn't buy the Solstice for the mileage.

Well if it can fit I stand corrected. Gregg's setup looks nice, but I'm still unsure about it fitting in a Solstice. If it works, more power to ya. Prove me wrong. For a drag set up it may be nice, but to me the Solstice is about being agile on a road course so I'd tend to go a direction that didn't add much weight, and kept the weight balance close to 50/50. Gregg, did you get any weight measurements of the I-6 for comparison?

I also think the 3.8V6 could be a good swap. I don't see much problem with him shoehorning that into the car, and they can make great power. There's a full bodied, full interior turbo Grand Prix GTP that runs 10's in the quarter and puts down over 700 whp near my hometown.
