Was I washed up when I guessed a 6.0 second 0-60 time or what? If the GXP has 260 HP, this is a HUGE amount of power in a 2900 lb car. Power to weight is 11.15 pounds/HP.
The GXP would have a superior power to weight ratio than a Ford Mustang GT. The power-to-weight is right there with a Boxster S, Nissan 350Z, Mitsubishi Evo X and Subaru WRX STi.
By contrast, the S2000 has a power to weight ratio of 11.88 pounds/horse.
So, do you think all the boy racers will be selling their SRT-4's for stripped GXPs?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is serious sports car. Less light weight British roadster and more Shelby Cobra's baby bro'.

On an unrelated issue, (well somewhat related), can we expect to see a redline about 1000 RPM higher than the base unit? Reducing displacement from 2.4L to 2.0 means less stroke or bore and either would result in more revs.
And on a side note... That Jeremy Clarkson British guy pretty much hated the Solstice. His favorite car is the Honda S2000. I wonder what he'll have to say about the GXP. I'm guessing he'll still hate it. But that's OK. I'll take his...
And I wonder how this news is playing out on the S2000 forums? Oh, I know. "It's still a crummy-made GM with a lousy top. I'll keep my Stook. "

The last Top Gear show that I saw this season talked about the Vauxhall and how he seemed to take a shine to the car. He referenced that the states were going to make the Solstice but didn't have anything bad to say about it.
Their car looked more like the Sky than the Solstice.

Clarkson's favorite roadster is hands-down the S2000. As far as Vauxhall goes, he's been giving them quite the praise lately. He hates the 350Z.
As far as roadsters go, he's a firm believer in "the best roadsters are ones that were designed to be roadsters from the beginning," and the Solstice does fill that qualification. If there was a Top Gear segment on the Solstice, I KNOW he would rip it apart for lackluster performance and interior quality. He'd probably really like the handling (maybe a mention on the understeer), and he'd praise the looks highly... as well as the price... but he'd rip options apart. He may mention something about the trunk (or boot), but he won't harp on that because all his favorite cars don't have boots.

7000 at least, almost every 2.0L turbo car i've seen has a 7000rpm redline.
I wouldnt be surprised if it even hit 7250rpm seeing that the 2.4L has a 6500 redline.
I'd like to see 4.11 gearing and an 8000 RPM readline.
Dsm's and evo's have a 7000rpm redline, but the valvetrain can easily handle 8-8500 rpm. While an 8000 rpm redline might be pushing it a bit, that doesnt mean the engine wont be able to handle it. Some heavier springs and retainers will allow a 2.0L engine to rev to 9-9500rpm if you want, but a small turbo wont be able to push that amount of air at that kind of rpm. A bigger turbo and cams will be needed.
Whats the point of reving that high when the power curve drops off at 6000 rpm?

I'm still trying to get over my SHOCK that the GXP's power to weight is better than a Mustang GT.
I mean, did ANYBODY see this coming back it 2002? The idea you could run a stock Solstice against a stock Mustang GT on a quarter mile track and the winner would come down to driver skill? HOLY COW!

I believe the 2.0L Supercharged ecotec engine has a redline of 6500 RPM, and am not sure I wouldn't expect a turbo ecotec to have a redline too much higher than that.
