I know you aren't calling bull**** on me are you? Of course you have to tune the engine to the redline. I'd like peak horsepower at 7000, torque peak at the 4000-5000 range with a 8k redline. My only issue is the turbo lag associated with small displacement and big turbo. If it wound up being a 7.5k redline with HP peak at 6750 and torque at 4500-5000 I wouldn't cry.
Who said anything about bull****? I just said the engine might be able to handle 8000 easily, but from an oem standpoint it would be pointless because the power curve will drop after 6000rpm due to the small turbo. The only "tuning" that will fix this is a larger turbo, a smallish turbo will be out of its efficiency range at that rpm.
I believe the 2.0L Supercharged ecotec engine has a redline of 6500 RPM, and am not sure I wouldn't expect a turbo ecotec to have a redline too much higher than that.
I have to agree with FF88 on this. The LE5 got an increased redline but that was one of the couple of items specially designed for this NA engine to help get more power from it. When they made the LSJ engine it maintained the same 6500 fuel shutoff. Now if the new engine is based off the LE5 I could see it possibly going up some, but I defintely don't expect it to be above the Solstice since all the other LE5 engines have a fuel shutoff of 6800 RPM instead of our 7000 RPM.
The changes made to get 2.0L displacement might make the engine rev faster, but I don't think it'll necisarily mean it can rev higher.
Brentil is right in this case, I'm mearly saying what I want to see.
BTW: Turbos don't see RPM, all they see is the amount of waste gas being pushed through it. Smaller displacement requires more revs to apply the same exhaust pressure all else equal.
A turbo can spool at 1000 RPM for a 7.0l diesel and if placed on a 2.0l will spool at 4000. That's a hypothetical statement but a minor thought experiment will bear it's logic.
Good points everyone. It will be great to be able to beat a Mustang, Challenger/Charger/300C, and come close to beating the goat.
Remember that is very very easy to get another 40-50 horses by just turning the boost up and getting it tuned.

power to weight on my bike is 2.2, if i did the calculating right so shove it! and i only payed 6k... but we wont get into the cost of crash repairs.
Don't forget the soon to die factor too... ;0

Was I washed up when I guessed a 6.0 second 0-60 time or what? If the GXP has 260 HP, this is a HUGE amount of power in a 2900 lb car. Power to weight is 11.15 pounds/HP.
The GXP would have a superior power to weight ratio than a Ford Mustang GT. The power-to-weight is right there with a Boxster S, Nissan 350Z, Mitsubishi Evo X and Subaru WRX STi.
By contrast, the S2000 has a power to weight ratio of 11.88 pounds/horse.
So, do you think all the boy racers will be selling their SRT-4's for stripped GXPs?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is serious sports car. Less light weight British roadster and more Shelby Cobra's baby bro'.
My SRT-4 has 300hp --- does 0-60 in just under 5 sec. I'm ready.

FWD with RWD and some sticky tires the GXP should smoke you out of the hole.

Yes but there is a new boy in town. The Solstice. And I'm betting folks with SRT-4s wouldl never have guessed this was coming. The 260 HP is plenty for me, but there will be folks who buy a Solstice and mod it out to make a lot more power.
That said, SRT-4 is still the most affordable 240 HP on the planet.

No SRT4s sadly are only FWD, biggest bang for the buck though. Best thing since the $20K 340 horse Z28.
I love the fact that you can buy a stage 3 SRT4 for 300/330 horses with your auto loan and still keep it under the Dodge warrantee.
