We are having some issues with our GXP, and I was hoping for some feedback.
(1)When we first start the car, we have no brakes. If you drive before it has an opportunity to run, somewhere between 30 and 90 seconds, you can't stop. The brakes act like they are locked up and you just roll or almost skid. We took it to our Pontiace dealer who had it for 4 days and then told us that this was occuring with all of the Soltices and that we just need to let it warm up. Seems odd that we have a car that won't stop.
(2)We were experiencing a whistling noise and we were unable to determine the source. While it was at the dealer for 4 days they looked for the whistle. They did everything including take the dashboard completely out. Since that time we have noticed more rattles and noises...the whistle was almost better. Now we are concerned about future problems because they removed the dashboard.
(3)We are also having trouble getting the black latches to unhook when the trunk is opened. The trunk will pop up as far as the outside latches will allow it. We have to hit the button several times to get it to open.
(4) The outside door handle came loose....We have never seen this before.
This car is practically brand new and we seem to have multiple significant problems. I'm not sure if others are experiencing any of these problems.

The whistle is most likely the turbo blow off recirculation when throttle lifting. I hear it all the time. It is normal and not very loud if that is what you are hearing. Too bad you had the dealer checking things. IMO taking stuff apart and putting it back together often leads to future squeaks and rattles.

It sounds like your top latches on the trunk need to be adjusted to release them when popping the trunk.

There is a thread on broken door handles. It is somewhat common.

I have an 08 GXP and as far as the brakes go...I know that the ABS module which is linked to the Stabilitrak calibrates when you first turn on the car. The brake pedal will feel very hard the first couple of times you brake. But the car should brake just fine. It just feels strange but the car will stop. It goes away within a minute of the first time you hit the brakes. Pretty normal with certain traction control systems.

As far as the other issues, odd. Whistling could be the turbo blow off valve, just need to get used to what a turbo sounds like.

I have had my car 4 months and I'm just starting to notice a lil rattling from what I think is the panel behind the seats. But other than that I've had no issues.

Well that and PAL system which if I had read the forums more thoroughly before getting it, I may have known about.

Saturn SKY Turbo has the same problem....it helps if you gently tap the gas and get the car to idle down...then your brakes will work....it is a little inconvenient!

Very important distinction on the whistle, if it happens when you let up on the gas, everyone is correct. It is normal. However, if it happens when you are accelerating, it is most probably the cheap radiator clamps used on the (darn, I do not know what the hose is called but someone will pipe in) hose on the opposite side from the turbo.

I had this problem and Deepblue replaced these clamps for me with t bolts and accelerating whistle is gone.

Not just the GXP and Redline it is a standard complaint of everyone with a DI engine. The fix is to allow your car to warm up before you launch.

Whistle is more than likely the turbo relief valve. Quite a few people have removed the dash for one reason or the other. If it was done right there should not be an issue.

Try something like WD40 in the holes the pins go into on the trunk. If this doesn't work have the dealer adjust the release cables for the trunk.

Door handle - you are not the first, nor will you be the last. It happens no one know exactly why and why to only a few. Dealer will replace it.

The brake "issue" can be fixed by reving the engine once or twice, stepping on the brake a couple of times, or both. The vacuum booster needs some vacuum to work with before it can do anything.

The whistle I have to chuckle about. This is my first turbo car and my SO has been getting into bird watching. Well, when I first go the car and I wasn't used to the sound, I thought "how odd, there always seems to be a bird singing when I slow down". Shortly thereafter, I put 1 & 1 together and figured out it was the blow off valve. I'll now sometimes try to make the sound just for fun.

I'd have the dealer look at the butresses as mine always release but the trunk doesn't always open all the way to the standard 1/4 to 1/2 way.

Door handles are a known issue I hope I don't get.

instead of reving it up and stomping the brakes, just let it idle for 30 seconds. What is the hurry? You should let a cold start motor run at least 30 seconds.

Door parts: We have 08 TC in the family as well, not mine but anyways i was checking out the doors. Now Scion is toyota I believe. The door pulls are the exact same to my eye, also the door stop is EXACTLY the same. So I will guess that these part are shared with many production lines. Im seeing alot of cars in larger parking lots with missing and or partly broke pulls.

Mine are tight still and seem ok, but then again i keep a car for 30 years or more, my last car i bought for me was my 71 and it was 9 years old then.

One thing i hear alot about our car and EVERY american car. Plastic or cheep plastic, I have to laugh, 90% of cars inside are all PLASTIC. Few cars are made with burl wood dashes, Metal dashes since the 60's. Is not all plastic really cheep? do they need to say it cheep plastic rather than Fine plastic? Its freeking plastic anyway you cut it. lol

Numbers 2 and 3 I have had issues with as well. #1 really scares me and should you too. I would contact GM/Pontiac on that one, seems a bit of a stretch. The door handles have broken off on both sides of my GXP and both sides of my 1st MY N/A Solstice. This is gonna be a worry area for cars out of warranty. This part is prone to breakage easily.

My car takes about 15 seconds from start-up to where I can gently push the throttle pedal and it will idle down. I don't even attempt to drive it away before then. It does seem a tad inconvenient, but since it isn't a daily driver for me, I live with it. Most cars nowadays you just start and go. I'm used to it already and have only had the car a few months. Good luck and just enjoy the neat things the car brings to you in the way of smiles and enjoyment. Everything I have heard people say about the inconveniences are pretty minor to me.

Enjoy,

Howster

You shouldn't do that on a cold engine on ANY car. Allow the oil to circulate a bit before you go. And drive somewhat gently until the water temp comes up to normal.

Problems.. what problems.. I here in the 2010s they will have a list in the glove compartment of all the know problems so you will know this is normal for the GM vehicle..

I love my SECOND solstice, but the little problems spell CHEAP !!!

Don't forget the gas gauge. Oh, and the clunk combined with the rough second gear, reverse too sometimes. Missing at certain RPMs, electrical in your dash board and starter.

But, the piece de resistance is the dealers never find these problems!.. "Unable to duplicate "

BUT, I'm going to get in my catalytic converter challenged GXP and have the most fantastic afternoon of driving everyday..

WHY, WHY, do I love this car.. I must be nuts..
