My stiff member (pics)

Hello forum!!

I have not been on here in awhile, got into some cheap women a few years back that took me away. but that's another story...

Anyways, I think all of us that have modified our cars in the performance aspect have come across the knowledge that, when under WOT, the differential carrier arm likes to twist and shimmy a little bit. I for one like my car to stay solid, and not twist sideways under acceleration.

So I upgraded, and by upgrading I mean I reverse engineered the stock equipment and made my own out of solid aluminum.

Pictures to prove it

Took about 30 hours of machine time, I own the shop at which it was done.

Started out as a 6X6X36 inch chunk weighing about 120lbs, finished was about 40 lbs.

How ya like that?!

car is still in pieces, but I have what I need to get er done now!

I can make more as well, price is determined by how many.

Did this stop the shifting 'clunk' that we have lived for the past 6 years? I thought I have read that the clunk was a result of the differential carrier arm twisting and not being solid enough. If this resolves it, it's worth it's weigh in $$$...

I am also interested in one of these for my car, if you decided to produce them.

Interesting. Looks nice.

How much did the stock weigh and (since I never look at mine closely) was it solid or hollow?
I wonder what the ZOK specifications are to compare strength to cost and is a piece like this worth producing. I have a kappa rebar but if I could stiffen it up better but take more work setting in place, I'd consider it. I love the rebar look from the back but it hits my magnaflow exhaust even after shaving it down.

I like what you have done and if specifications are comparable and cost is cheaper than ZOK, then you may hit a new market with this piece for the Kappa. I hope it works out. for pricing and updates.

I have yet to put the car back together and find out, I am still making a few more pieces to go under the car and then i'm gonna button it up and take it for a test burnout. I will make sure to listen for the clunk. I personally havent heard the clunk since I put in the SOLO straight exhaust a few years back, its pretty obnoxious!

stock weighs around 15lbs or so, it is a hollow piece of formed sheet metal that is then filled with a high density foam.

I also bought the rebar a few years back and could'nt install it because of my exhaust, that was the main reason I put time in making this piece.

I would have no problem producing these, I would just need to have enough ordered to actually start throwing chips.

price would be around $2500

Material is 6061 Aluminum which costs $800 for the size needed, plus machine time (30 hours) and consumables (endmills I used for this are about $150 a piece, and it took three different kinds).

I'm going to see how my car behaves first before I make another, I just might want to be the only guy with one.
