Hopefully solsticeman settles this peacefully .But I have a Solstice and have driven it 120 at least three times and 125 once no limiter at these speeds garrenteed. Have hit rpm limiter in second once and it is something you only have to experience once. A very dramatic engine shut down followed by a short wait for it to begin reving again. As to the thought you wait long enough in 5th gear it will go faster. Its obvious youve never tried it the car slowes down to 105 app. THE ISSUE IS ONE OF HORSEPOWER AND GEARING IT WONT GO ANY FASTER NO MADDER HOW LONG YOU WAIT>

sorry got a little wound up. these speeds were achieved over 2-3 miles maybe you wait long enough it would go faster but think not. would love for it to go faster but hasnt wont. Also have a old MIATA question have ben told by too owners they would go 140 have went over 140 in 2 different TRANS AMS cant imagine that a MIATA would actualy go that fast or would be very scary So how many with ACTUAL experiance have seen a miata go that fast?

You might want to check out the last page or two of this thread (that GoDrvn mentioned earlier) ...

60mph in second gear???

From my experience, the Sol just stops accelerating at the rev limiter, but doesn't cut out or anything like that. It was a pleasant change of pace from my last car, which acted exactly as you described. Maybe try it again if you have a chance and let us know if you have a different experience. I suppose some cars could be different than others, but it would be interesting to find out if that's the case. Also, there's a slight possibility that it occasionally acts weird and cuts out. But I guess that discussion would be a bit more appropriate in that thread ... so weigh in over there if any of you have noticed that your car sputters once you hit the rev limiter. There might be something more to that discussion than meets the eye.

Ok - the scoop ( top speed topspeed speedlimiter speed limiter ):

There are two cutoffs for the engine, both electronic, both intended to be "soft" or "gentle" fuel cutoffs.

1) Engine RPM, 7000 RPM

2) Vehicle speed, any gear, 230 kph. This is confirmed for vehicle with option code LE5, the 2.4 l naturally aspirated engine in the Solstice.

The car is aero-limited, so depending on conditions, available engine power (varies according to temperature, humidity, elevation, and modifications), top speed will be somewhere between 118 MPH to maybe as high as 130 MPH if you're going downhill, with a tailwind, you have modified the intake and exhaust, and are running in cold-but-not-too-cold-near-sea-level conditions (maximum engine power but not too dense atmosphere for aero drag).

I couldn't get the speed limitation for the GXP, but it is thought to be up to the limitation of the tire (my estimate for a W-rated P245/45R18 tire at two people in a roughly 3000 lb car is >152 mph or so).

So, (if you have the power of a Hahn turbo) to stop the cutoff you need to stay under the revs and stay below the speed!

Revs - (a) bigger tires, (b) rear gear change, (c) 6 speed trans.

Speed - (a) & (b) above???

Or change the limiter to the configuration of the GXP?

So why not?
Funny thing about speed. It feels safe with one machine and not another.
Had my T/A maxxed out on a local highway that runs straight for about 15 miles. Get around the 150 mark, indicated, and the steering wheel gets very small and steering is minimal. Above that and you dare not move an inch.
Had my then street bike maxxed out 185 indicated (177 corrected) and it felt very safe and secure.

At what speed would a car 'float'? Do cars still do that like they did to us in the 70's?

Disadvantages of driving in Germany:
1) When you fly off the road at 120+ mph, you find out why Oak was used as armor on ships.

Now that's ART!

Well if what you mean by float is when the wind starts to pick up the car... then yes....

I do not believe that it is safe to push these cars to over 130.... the wind has almost as much of an effect at that speed that the tires do.... and a crosswind can be fatal...

Fastest i've ever been on the street is 140 in a Volvo / 125 in my Camaro... and faster then that at a track (got to drive a friends pro mod 70 vette! WOW!)

Unless im at the salt flats... i'll keep it to 100 max... who knows maybee this car will inspire me! I hope not though!

118 mph on a slight downhill grade, twisty banked curve and s-curve area about 140 miles south of Albuquerque, NM. Do that trip twice weekly and the Solstice stays firmly planted, neutral with no under or over steer.
