I stopped at a local dealership to see about getting on the list for ordering a GXP. He gave me a little bit of a run-around that "we don't know the pricing or anything about it yet, so we can't really do anything for you, but I can take your name and information..."
So I'm first on that salesman's list of people to call when the GXP goes into the computers. I'm going to call another dealership in Rockford to see what he can do for me. I'll probably just "play" both dealers and when it comes down to actually ordering one, see which one's gonna play nice.
Either way, I'm ridiculously excited to get a GXP, especially since my fiancée said I could have one after we get married. How perfect that the wedding's in August and the GXP probably won't deliver until September, eh?

Used to live in Rockford. Moved in 2000. Good luck with the Rockford Pontiac dealership. They were awfully rude on a TransAm convertible while I lived there. There are other options. Check out Milwaukee and Chicago. You have a lot of dealers within 300 miles of you, and most will play nice.

So far the guys I've worked with have been nice, but there's no option for haggling at this point.
I bought my Celica in Milwaukee, but that's almost as much as I know of dealerships in that area. Rockford sales tax is up since 2000, and Chicago's has never been low, but it'll all depend on how far over MSRP the dealership wants to go.
So we'll see...
It snowed a half-inch or so Thursday night, and my FWD car slid into a curb at all of 3mph, so that p*ssed me off beyond belief. At this point, I just want to go back to a RWD vehicle - it just so happens the GXP has far better performance for not much lower gas mileage.
Update: I called Rockford and he said they're struggling getting the '06s out; it's taking about 9 months. One would assume it'll be about the same for cars ordered in April 06 for the '07 model year *shrug*
I put down a $500. deposit today for a GXP to be sold to me at MSRP, and was the first to do so at the Charlotte dealer I went to. Another dealer in Gastonia nearby would only accept deposits if the order was written up to include a $3000 "market adjustment" over the future MSRP... needless to say, he hasn't taken any deposits yet..lol.
It'll be a great car that will give me years of fun. Really looking forward to it. Now I just have a year to decide what customized license plate I want to order... thank goodness NC only has the rear plate.
Better get the car before the marriage. Or be real sure she likes it. Something happens to women once that gold hits the left fourth finger. Some sort of chemical reaction! Yesses suddenly turn into nos.

Good luck haggling on any GXP. Good luck haggling on the regular base Solstice. The price, I feel, is fair at MSRP. The real issue is dealers trying to gouge above MSRP to the tune of $3K-$5k above, or some potential buyers trying to bargain on a hot item at invoice to below MSRP. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. I am in line for the first GXP from my dealer and will sell mine or put in on blocks for my daughter to drive in a few years. However, I fully expect to pay MSRP and won't bat an eye about that. I did not buy any vehicles in Rockford in the 3 years I was there, and bought out of town, in Chicago and in Michigan to save money over the gougers in Rockford. That T/A convertible I wanted had a regional market adjustment of $7K and they would not budge. Then, in May of 2000 when I was moving, sales GM calls to say they'd sell at MSRP. But guess what, I had already bought what I wanted and let them know they missed out on a cash deal. I felt good about that.
You gotta shop around. Call all dealers within say 150-300 miles. Get a fair price, which is prolly MSRP and go from there. I am satisfied with the base engined Sol, but I gotta have a little more oomph.
Just filled out a JD Power and Associates survey today, 2nd one in fact with now $2 made filling these suckers out, but gotta be fair. My gripes are horsepower and a 6 speed tranny.

I put down a $500 check at my dealer for the second GXP he gets, somebody else had already bought the first spot. I drop by every 2-3 weeks to remind them that I am #2, they hate me there.
They will call me when they get the build order for me to come in and fill it out. Now I just need to find $27k in my couch cushions hehe.
Just make sure you follow up with these guys to show your face once and a while to shoot the breeze, always reconfirm your place on their list and please make sure you get something in writing stating MSRP. Dealer may squawk and say we don't have prices etc, just have them fill in your name on a blank sales contract that just has 2007 Solstice GXP at MSRP. These cars will be hot and in short supply, you don't want any surprises after you've waited 6 months like others have had.

1st for a GXP at my dealer. I stop in about once a month to talk with the manager and was lucky enough to see a Deep come off the truck. Just made me want mine that much more. If production for MY '07 starts in June, maybe we'll be seeing ours by August-September?

I'm not even sure what spot on the list I'm on as my dealer is unsure how the allocations are going to be for the GXP's. More than likely I won't know until the allotment info for the GXP is released. Fine by me as I'm supposed to get MSRP for it (dealership policy for ALL of their vehicles).

That's actually a really good idea.
And I don't expect to pay under MSRP, but I don't expect to pay $3000 over MSRP either.
I went into my dealer and we filled out a Vehicle Purchase Order for my GXP and they willingly wrote "1st allocation for "dealer name" belongs to "my name" on the order, selling price as "MSRP" and listed known options wanted and finally listed "no dealer name tagging, no front license plate frame mount, no sticker damage, and option to swap tires at dealer before delivery" All countersigned by the Sales Manager.
There are decent dealers out there, just ask for it and if they say "No" or "plus $x" say "Bye Bye, So long, one more for your competition!!"
