Adjustable Seats in the Solstice GXP
Member

Join Date: Feb 2007
Hi,

I am about to order a new GXP with the Auto transmission and went to the dealer to have the wife sit in the car (It will be hers ) We had a hard time adjusing the seat so she could reach the pedals and she is 5'5" tall. The dealer told us that the only adjustment for the seat was the auto height adjustment and the seat back angle! Is this true? We could not find a way to adjust the seat forward or back without moving the backrest. I find this hard to believe but unless the seat can be moved, the purchase will be a no-go. Is there a hidden control to manually move the sear forward?

Thanks,
Rob

It is adjustable, there should be a bar/lever located low on the front of the seat that allows you to adjust fore/aft.

There is not a power fore/aft adjustment, it is manual.

The pedal height is not adjustable.

there is a bar centered near the floor under the front seat cushion that allows the seat to move foward......your sales person was too knowledgeable ......

I'm 5'5" and between the seat height adjuster and the adjustment front to back manually under the seat, I can get in perfect driving position.

I went to the dealer to test the seat also to see how I liked the new adjustable seat. They had covered the manual level adjustment that was on the floor with the floor mat and even the salesmen thought that they had forgotten to install it. When we finally found it they felt pretty stupid. It goes a long way up works fine for me!

As others have said, right there in the front of the seat.

Does anyone know if the seat elevators can be retrofitted? My GXP didn't include them. I'm wondering if the wiring harness includes the connectors.h

err, kind of a side-note, but...

Does the power-height adjuster make the seat any taller than the normal, manual seat?

I'm hoping not... (I'm on the opposite end of the height-spectrum )

From the site's Open Item thread:
Quote:

POWER SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTER, DEALERSHIP/RETAILER INSTALLED UPGRADE SEPERATED 12/20, This section deals with just the possible dealership installed upgrade.

Here is a notice that Saturn Retailers received September 20th about the Sky. Not sure if the "upgrade" information will apply to the Solstice but thought all should see.

Vehicles produced after June 26, 2006 can support the height adjustable seat and be retrofitted by replacing the driver seat. Vehicles built prior to that date do not have the necessary wiring harness necessary for the height adjustment.

Again, no more information then this. The interesting part will be to see how much is involved in "replacing the driver seat". Will it be just parts of the seat track or the whole seat frame?

Still have seen no information from Pontiac about an upgrade. Also have not noticed any Saturn messages addressing it. Have any of the Saturn Sky sites mentioned an upgrade? If so PM me the information and will add it here.

No one has ever reported in a post that they have seen the harness under the driver's seat on a non-power height adjuster car.

So it is still a mystery.

   Installed Power Seat Height Adjuster

I installed the seat track with the power seat height adjuster in my GXP. I ordered it from the Pontiac parts department. My GXP was built in Oct 2006 with no height adjuster. I'm 5'4" and the seat was too low for me. After taking my seat track off of my seat and setting it next to the motorized track, the motorized track actually goes down lower than the non-motorized track, just to let you tall people know. So...if you purchased a GXP without the height adjuster you would be sitting higher than you would be with your height adjuster seat all of the way down (unless the cushions are a different height in which I didn't purchase a new cushion). The cushion is a different part number. I had to purchase the track and the switch. The wiring for the height adjuster was already in my car built into the seatbelt wiring plug. It is NOT a simple swap to install the auto seat track. There are some mods that have to be done. But mine is in now and I have to wire the switch in next.
Seat frame part # 15942838 retails for $466.13
Seat switch part # 15859914 retails for $65.60
I cut the switch connector that plugs into the switch out of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am power window switch in the left door panel. Where the cushion attaches to the sides of the frame I had to use zip ties to hold the cushion in place rather than drill new holes in the frame. There were no holes in the new frame to secure the sides and front of the cushion. The zip ties work fine and you can't see them. Of course you could drill holes but I didn't want to go that route.
