After owning a Cobalt SS and being one of the pioneers of big turbo kits on the LNF for the Cobalt, I am finally back in the LNF game, but with a better platform. Spent the last couple years in drag racing, motorcycles, Mustangs, what not and have learned a lot in those realms that I am excited to apply to whatever I do in the future. That said, I am happy to be back to this beautiful engine and look forward to being in a little more mature car scene than the Cobalts haha.
This build will be a fun/road racing build. Basically, I am going to fabricate as much as I can for the car, because that's what I love to do. Plans as of right now are suspension, body bracing, aluminum race exhaust, intercooler, pipes, intake, and sticky tires. Since this is my first road racing type build and first time road racing, I realize I will be out of my experience level quite quickly with this platform. I will be going for the Functional+ look, which means everything serves a purpose but will look good doing so.
That said, the car was a little rough when picking it up, but I got it super cheap ($9600) with 64k miles on the clock. The front bumper needs repaired, intercooler has been banged up, and has a few random dents and nicks, but overall, no rust, great shape interior, and she runs strong!
The first thing I had to do was get some BC Racing coilovers. I am pleased with the performance and ride of these coilovers.
I will not be doing any events this fall, and most of the work will be done over the winter. I am taking the car on a 4,000 road trip at the end of October and then will be parking her to start work. First off will be re-drilling the hubs to accept 5x114.3 pattern so I can get into some cheaper racing wheels. While those are out, I will be pulling the exhaust out and figuring out the materials and hopefully be getting that welded up (keep an eye here for progress pics on this), I should be able to save a fair amount of weight with this, and a full 3" turbo back exhaust will gain some power. Intercooler will be getting done this winter as well and might as well do IC pipes while I'm at it. Also, the car has been tuned on something and I will be retuning the car.
Anyway, hopefully some people find some interest in this. I am back in school for a doctorate degree and this is what I will be doing to tinker, so nothing competitive at this time, just trying to relax and have fun in a new style of racing!
ENJOY!
