Competition Mode

So what exactly is different in the software settings when yo hit the traction control button quickly twice to get the traction control into "competition mode?"

Bump

I've been wondering about the three different settings as well.

Come one someone please chime in.

ABS is easy enough to figure out, jump on the brakes and it controls lockup.

Traction control and competition mode, the manual wasn't real clear on this.

What mode do you use when you want no assistance for braking and traction?

I know in some more expensive cars that if you go into a corner hard on the throttle and start to slide/slip the computer will actually limit your throttle and control/limit your speed through the corner.

Will the GXP traction and ABS systems do this? If so in what mode?

The best explanation I've seen can be found on the Sky Roadster site here:

Competitive Mode versus Turning off TC and ESC. - Saturn Sky Forums: Saturn Sky Forum

Post 4 & 5 give a good summary!

This is a link to a YouTube video of a professional race driver in a Corvette Z06 comparing Competition Mode On and Off.

Ever read the manual for the car?

From memory, competition mode turns off TC and relaxes ESC a bit.

TC off selection still keeps ESC in full working mode.

Great video and link, HUH:

I would add one thing to my earlier post on the Sky side. Traction control is a throttle control, it takes fuel away from you if the car senses to much wheel spin. There are situations where that can work against you drastically.

For instance, stuck on ice in the middle of winter, in that situation you will have to shut off the nannies to get wheel spin going to help you out, if you are completely stuck.

But a more serious situation to be aware of is times when you may be expecting to be able to "steer with your rear wheels". Say you are waiting to make a left hand turn at an uncontrolled intersection, and there is a lot of traffic. You are thinking to yourself, I will just gun it and slip in between cars during a small break in traffic. DON'T FORGET what happens if you have the car set in normal mode (which is the default setting when you start up). You go heavy throttle while making that turn, and you will find that throttle is taken away from you in a drastic way, and you are going REAL slow.
