Any of you guys notice an excessive amount of engine noise? Specifically the valve train. When I have the top up and the radio off, I can hear a clicking noise from idle until about 1500-2000rpm when the rest of the motor noise overwhelms it. It's not loud, it's just kind of annoying. Maybe i'm just used to a quieter, smoother engine.

The GM Ecotech is not a quiet engine, it is known for sounding like this.
Nothing is wrong here my good friend.

Could be hearing noises from the fuel system, and thinking it is valve train.
The turbo engine direct injection fuel system produces a rapid, clicking and ticking sound that can be heard from the engine compartment.
It is more noticeable during idle, and is more frequent during a cold start but lessens once the engine is warm.
The rapid ticking noise on cold start up is the fuel pump, on the rear of the cylinder head, building up high fuel pressure. When the warmed-up, the pump will continue to tick at a lower rate of approximately one tick per second during idle.
The clicking sound is the fuel injectors pulsing on and off under higher fuel pressures.
There may also be an audible clicking noise from the fuel pulse dampener during idle.
These sounds are the results of a normal direct injection fuel system operating properly.

If you are talking about the GXP this car is very quiet vs my NA 2.4L 1st 1K Solstice. The only sounds I hear is my mellow V8 like exhaust note coming from the back of this car.

Returnless fuel systems are also noisy (I assume the DI engines are returnless?). My present car has a returnless system and is noisy.

I don't know if this relates, but my Envoy ticks as well. I was told that it was the sound of the oil pump/valves/solenoids that regulate the timing on the cam. Envoy has Variable Valve Timing on the exhaust side. Sol has VVT on both, right? Maybe that's part of the noise you are hearing.
My wife's car is a 2007 Solstice N/A.
I have been wondering the same thing as ChopSui.
I hear the clicking noise alot for instance when the car is coasting down a hill and the engine rpm's are coming down.
I don't hear this noise with my 2006 Pontiac G6 (except when cold), same engine only that it is mounted transversely. Both the Sol and the G6 are automatics too.

I have a noise that sounds like a valve train noise that is progressively getting louder, lasting longer and increasing in frequency. I hear it better when the car is warming up and when it idles back down after revving up. I am at 37K now but I noticed it at around 22-25K and had it fist documented around 27K.
I have heard that the engine was built with increased tollerances which allow for increased oil flow during warm up. Clearences are reduced as the metal expands during warm up.... that concurs with what the first tech said.
As the sound progressed, the second tech wanted to pull the valve cover to see/hear what is going on under the cover. He concurred that there could be a valve train issue.
Brought it back so they could try again, but this time, another tech said it was normal noise, and also said it was piston slap. When I popped the hood, and made him listen to it, he said that it wassn't piston slap and that he was looking for an engine knock? when he initially looked at it???? I don't know where he got that I complained of a knock. After arguing and trying to get this guy to see that I don't have a problem with a "noisy" engine, it is the progression of symptoms that bother me. Being a nurse, and mechanically inclined, I have learned not to use the "wait and see" method to figure what type of problem that the S&S are depicting. The "tech" said his wife's car makes the same sound, and therefore, it is a normal sound. That is the logic that was used to say it was normal.
Needless to say, after hours of phone tag and useless conversations with the GM Customer Service Rep (useless!!), I need to take it to the next level.
Some questions: Does anyone else have a valve train noise on start up until warmed up? Has it progressed? What is your milage?
Next question: Does anyone have an idea of who to call vs write next? If not, does anyone have Bob Lutz's address and phone number???
I love the car, the the service needs to be improoved.
High pressure injectors, get used to it, it is totally normal. They insulate them on the more expensive cars such as Cadillacs. But with the Solstice, you gets what you pay for.
