Got my first check engine light

Mods in order:

K&N Air Filter (ODO 3,000 miles)
Solo Street Race Exhaust (ODO 9,000 miles)
PCMForLess Tune (ODO 12,000 miles)

The car currently has 13,000 miles on the ODO.

Kind of worried. Car appeared to be running fine. I only gassed it once in 5th gear on the tollway and only for just a few seconds. I noticed the check engine light right before pulling into work so I'm not exactly sure when it came on. I'm taking my car to get my Eibach Sportlines installed today but now I'm concerned if I should even be driving the car.

I'll try to go to Auto Zone today and get a free reading to see what it might be. I'll post back with the results.

If you didn't lose any power AND the light came on when you or after you accelerated in 5th ... it may just be a sensor and clear itself after a few days.

Can't remember the exact code but AR had the same thing happen and CEL went out in a couple of days.

Still, have it read to see what the code was ... if its not something serious, let sit a couple of days and see if it will clear itself.

Here is a list of the codes:

Thanks so much, MomsSol.

I'm hoping it's nothing serious. I really don't want to park it and wait for a new ECM with the stock tune. =(

You're welcome ... believe it was this code:
P0011 - Intake Camshaft Position System Performance

Somewhat of a *ghost* code - 5th gear acceleration (especially uphill) can cause this from what I've heard on a couple of cars now.

Moral of the story ... Do NOT accelerate rapidly in 5th gear.

It's giving a P0496 code.

"EVAP Flow During A Non-Purge Condition"

Been searching google heavily on this issue. Car is running perfectly fine. Seen some things about the gas cap. I've retightened it but it still displaying the engine light. I'm going to unhook the battery for 30 minutes and see if it makes any difference.

Anyone else have any ideas? I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff.

The balance on the MAP sensor settings in the tune are very tricky, it could be tune related. I had some CEL issues with my early Westers tunes. You can clear the code at almost any auto parts store with there scanner for free.

Its either the evap purge solenoid not closing or the fuel tank pressure sensor not reading correctly, i'll bet its the evap purge solenoid sticking. Nothing related to your mods.

I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and then hooked it back up. I drove the car for a good 25 miles with my typical driving style (some short aggressive bursts but nothing crazy) and also filled up the tank. The light didn't come back on.

It sucks because I was constantly watching the dash to see if it was going to light up. It's one of the worst feelings ever. Not only that but now I really need to buy another ECM with the stock tune to put back in the car in case I have to take a trip to the dealer. I guess I better get on that quick...

hey buddy. tell me where the solenoid valve is. based on all the research i have done, it's probably under the engine cover but im unsure.

and btw, the light still hasn't come back on after i disconnected the battery for 30 minutes. i'm waiting for it though. we shall see.

The CEL lit up again this morning on the way to work. What's weird is it lit up at almost the same exact location as the first time a few days ago. There is a dip in the road on the way to work and I noticed the light immediately after going thru the dip. Is it possible something is loose and is causing the CEL to light up?

hmmmmmmmmmm

I'm going to let it sit for a few days and see if it goes out on it's own like MomsSol suggested.

Reading another thread on a Chevy Colorado forum.

Chevy Avalanche Fan Club P0496

Some guys had the same exact problem. They also said whenever they topped off their tanks, their trucks had trouble starting up.

I topped off my tank after I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes. I do remember my car starting abnormally and ran funny for the first mile or so. Based on everything they said in their thread, the solenoids do need to be replaced, most likely at the engine and at the gas tank.

So...If I take my car in to the dealer with my PCM4Less tune, are they going to find out and void my warranty? If they reflash it, that won't bother me too much as I can send it back to Bryan for a reflash. I'm just concerned about them finding out and voiding my warranty.

I'd be real interested in knowing what the dealer does in this case. Let us know.
How long is it going to be before you get your new ECM? I noticed you actually need the part number in order to find the ECM on GM Parts Direct. It wasn't always this way. You could simply search on "ECM" and it would come up. Almost like they are hiding it.

I'm going to play it safe and not take my car in until after I get the ECM with the stock tune. Can't risk losing my warranty even though the problem I am having is most likely totally non-related to the tune itself.

I would buy the parts to fix the problem but I don't have the service manual so I would not know exactly what to do.

Maybe someone has a service manual and could help me with finding the EVAP purge solenoids.......?

You are lucky-at least your light will got off. Mije has been in 7 times for the light but the light refuses to stay off. Every time I take it in it goes off for for two days and comes right back on. Had it in once for a whole week so they could work on it and even contact GM as to how to fix it and it still came back on.
