I had a check engine light come on after I installed my high-flow cat and steppen on the gas. Took it to the dealer and he didn't seem concerned. He said the idiot lights were the bane of the auto industry, that unless it was flashing not to worry. Both times the light came on it did clear in a few days. It is always a good ideato check, however, just to make sure.
This is a good time to bring up a nasty bad habit that I am sure many of you are guilty of - which can not only lead to a CEL and hard starting but is also bad for the environment. All cars since teh 70s have evap systems usually with charcoal canisters. The purpose is to collect and absorb excess fuel and fuel fumes. Saturating teh system wit hraw fuel negates its purpose and causes it on some vehicles to hiccup.
The improper procedure many of you are doing is topping off the fuel tank after the auto-shutoff has shut off. Blipping the handle to get every last drop of fuel you can into your car is the problem and its fix is simple - when the pump shuts off - that's it, return the nozzle to holder, pay for your fuel and be on your way.
My '07 Solstice GXP has almost 21K on it and I have always done this. I can generaly get 1-1.5 gal more into the tank after the first time the nozzel clicks (for real). I have on two occasions had a check engine light . Both came several days after fillup 5 min after getting on the freeway. No performance or starting issues. Both cleared themselves after several days of driving (5-10 restarts). Never got the codes read but am thinking of getting a code reader.
I have always done this to normalize my gas mileage reading (make it consistant). I Never park the car in the sun right after a fill (to keep the tank from expanding gasoline into the evap system). Also have noticed that my real gas mileage (28-33mpg) is always 1-1.5mpg less than the DIC.

Hey everyone, just got my first check engine light yesterday as well. 07 GXP ~ 10,500 miles, solo exhaust, tune. The following 5 codes came up on the DashHawk. Cause for concern or just a 1 time deal? Was kinda hoping the light would be gone this morning but it's still hanging out. Nothing odd and no difference in performance. I checked the gas cap last night after reading the other threads and before pulling the codes out this morning, seemed ok

Give it a few days and see if it clears on its own. I got one just the other day. It was complaining about the Oxygen Sensor. It cleared the next day on its own.
Try to not get t-boned after one of your top-ups - fuel in the filler might squirt out with unpleasant results. Remember when "Nightline" faked GM pickup fires? The fuel that burned in those dramatic pictures was from the fuel fill pipe, deliberately overfilled and with a gas cap that didn't fit.
I suspect you can get just as consistent fills by stopping at the first click.
On the wife's Sky, we had the gas cap warning come on three times after a fill up over a six month period. stopping and reinstalling the gas cap always cleared the problem on a restart.
Then two weeks ago the CEL came on and stayed on. I exercised Onstar to do a diagnostic and they said it was an emission non-urgent fault and it should clear in 7 starts. Needless to say it did not clear so we took it to Saturn. They had it half a day and replaced the gas cap and a connector, reset the CEL and its been off for the past week.
