This GXP sure is fun to drive, compared to the NA i had for a year, it's such a different animal. I've put on about 100miles so far, and noticed something odd/different, and wanted to see if this is normal. when i let off the gad pedal, i'll sometimes hear a short high pitch whine coming from the front of the vehicle, it's very short, and not very loud, and only noticeable when i don't have the stereo on. Initially, i was thinking this is just the turbo whine, i'm no expert, but shouldn't the whine be on spin up of the turbo (when it's giving boost) instead of whine down (when i let off the gas pedal)?

1. is this normal?
2. how do i begin to troubleshoot this?
3. what is the technical way to describe this to the dealer if i bring it in?
4. should i be worried?

thoughts?

It's the factory blow off valve.

3. what is the technical way to describe this to the dealer if i bring it in? say "turbo's working"
4. should i be worried? nope

Isn't it cool sounding! Most of the road tractors make the same whine when they let off; listen the next time your out.

thanks for the information - had me worried about the car for a while. I still can't get used to the whine yet... a couple of hundred miles more may do it

there are two things that happen when you pop off the gas.. and they generate two sounds.

First, what most people hear, is the squirt of the blow off valve.

Second, if you are under a large load for an increased amount of time, IE, make full boost and the wastegate opens... Then you will hear the wastegate slam back shut. It makes kind of a jerky sound that is hard to describe. But it's completely normal. You'll never notice it until the first time that you hear it, and then you will hear it all the time after that... it's just the way turbos are.

1 more thing... is this a manual or auto? Because the manual trans whines on the decel.
