But what he produced was the press release of the SD 290 Concept, Concepts change heck even production models change from year to year.. So whos to say that the stage II kit isnt 315 now, That SEMA release is 6 months old. Through testing they might have found out that the cars and drive trains can handle 350 reliably..

The only point I'm trying to make is we dont actually know.. a 6 month old press release on a concept is not anything that is written in stone i think everyone would agree that concepts and even production cars can change and do change with in a years time.

But some people are talking with GM directly and do know, they just can't say it.

GM would never push this engine in a version for sale to 350HP without using a larger turbo. Pushing it to ~290HP/310 lbs-ft is probably the boundary of where they feel is safe enough with the current turbo to keep the car going long term.

your point is a great point, that those specs are surely subject to change, especially if we look at the current market

it's great to hear information from someone on the inside like yourself and we all surely hope you're correct and the gm tune will compete in performance with the westers tune

that being said, brentil's post is also right on, the specs he posted is what gm anticipated for release at one time, possibly, hopefully, and according to your sources, they have upped the anti

let me say this however;

the after market tunes don't have to consider the drive train warranty, all they are doing is giving us band for the buck

gm would be wise to keep specs where warranty repairs don't cost them more then they receive by selling the tune

the point is gm is not really competing with the aftermarket tunes, their tune carries with it a guarantee of reliability and they can therefore get more for a tune that delivers lower specs

I will pay 25% more for a gm tune that does not give the same performance as an aftermarket tune and I will be happy to do it
Got your point.. but I don't think you meant to directed it towards me. I wasn't commenting on the specs... I started the other thread on this topic in the Autocross / Racing section and have been getting information directly from the Setup drivers, as well as my contacts.

As MomsSol stated.. there are many of us here who are "connected". Some are because of this car and their affiliation with the forum, some have friends at GM / suppliers, some work within the supply base, others work at GM.

I happen to fit most of those categories... as do many others on this board.

My only comment since I was the one who started the thread and made a point to go to the NOPI in Florida with the purpose of asking the question about the Stage kit.
Why 2 people from GM would make up a number. They both said because of that power GM had to do a lot durability test in order to be satisfied it will last.
So yes it could be 290 BHP but at the same time if proven to be reliable at 312 - 315 BHP as they both mentioned then why would that not be the final figure.

Just in case you didn't notice over in the MECCA II threads. GM did announced at MECCA II that the SetUp (Koni Car was there) upgrade would be 290HP with warranty and under $1K. A bit fussy on when, unless I missed it.

Direct from the man himself. .. the cheif engineer... who I spoke to before his speach and he gave me some info...

there are test cars driving the streets right now with this 290 tune. It will be available this summer. He actually referenced "summer" twice, when I was asking other questions and he said "like I said... you'll have to see this summer"
