Direct from the man himself. .. the cheif engineer... who I spoke to before his speach and he gave me some info...
there are test cars driving the streets right now with this 290 tune. It will be available this summer. He actually referenced "summer" twice, when I was asking other questions and he said "like I said... you'll have to see this summer"
I am aware of these test vehicles... but at last contact even those testing the cars were not sure when things would be wrapped up. It's been confusing to me, as usually my contacts have much more firm information than they do on this particular topic.
Any word as to if they ran into issues in testing or changed anything since last October? I know everything was working fine for the Setup show, and I know the SCCA Championships were prior to that and GM had other tunes out there then... just seems longer than the typical testing for non-factory equipment. I can't imagine they put this out at the test stations in Canada and Arizona... but I guess I could check on that.
I agree. Honestly, I don't have much interest going to THE PLANT. To me, Mecca is where the car is designed and engineered....the plant folks just put the product together.

The car in hand built. I was born in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital and all of the people I knew growing up worked in and around the automobile business, My uncle was the head of Pontiac Service in the 1950s and early 60s. I can not begin to count the number of plants I have been in over the years. I have never seen or heard (its quite) anything like this nor met so many of the folk on the line who love the cars they are building. Go over and read the thank you thread and you'll get a small sense of it.

The above is a big leap. Two MECCA Tours in two years does not mean there will be annual tour events.
If engineers at MECCA are saying summer - that's where my hope lies for the moment.
In the after party at the hotel... there were a few (to remain nameless) who said they had met with GM/Plant officials about Mecca III. And mentioned a MAJOR surprise, but wouldnt elaborate... I tried pouring extra alchohol into drinks to loosen the lips, but to no avail.

You're right, it was. That wasn't my intent. My goal was to try to give some credit to the people upstream of the assembly process. I know the assembly process for this vehicle is very unique and very hands on and artistic. Let's just not forgot everyone back here in Detroit as well.
