If anything, we might be over-estimating GXP demand, sure alot of us Solstice enthusiasts want the GXP for it's promised performance boost but many buyers just don't care, period. The base Solstice is more than enough for them.
I honestly think that 40% Solstice GXP's is unlikely and even 25% would be high in my opinion. Generally car buyers don't ALL choose the top performance model, just look at Mustang sales, sure they have some nice top of the line Mustangs but the v-6's have always been their bread and butter.
We have been discussing this topic for a while now. See the threads within a threads below.

GXP available to order yet?
In my post I also link and even older thread on the same topic. This should help fill you in on the good and the bad of waiting for a GXP. I have a bad feeling it's going to require some luck to get one, so GXP folks need to be patient. I'd plan on having your Solstice a little longer than you might want right now. Hope this helps.
The worrying has to do with how things on the regular Solstice panned out. GM did NOT build cars as ordered like you suggest. Options like chrome wheels and OnStar did not become available until later, and then when they were it was in a limited capacity. Leather was a big deal in the beginning. For a while only certain amounts of cars were being built with it, period. Look up Small Dealer's weekly allocation thread to see what I'm talking about.
I hope you are right, but I'm afraid you are wrong, at least in the beginning. I think (and so do others here) that GM will come up with a number (say like 25% or 40% = 5000 or 8000) of cars per year and that will be it, especially for the first year. If memory serves, there are about 2800 Pontiac dealers, so using the examples above, 5000 cars/2800 dealers = 1.78 cars and 8000 cars/2800 dealers = 2.85 cars. So on complete average (which won't hold true due to dealer priorities) dealers will see about 2 cars all year. In reality we know this will work out to some dealers getting none, and others getting 4. Add on that many folks are waiting specifically for the GXP and that means the entire 1st years production will be taken by long term pre-orders. Then there is the wait for GM to even pick up the dealers allocation, which may take months.
I think the wait the first year is going to require lots of luck. But like I said, I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong. I think as time goes on it will become more like you say, because supply and demand will even out. But in the beginning demand will far out weigh supply, so it's going to require a lot of luck to get one early on. Just because you might be first on your dealers GXP list will only be 1 small piece of a much larger pie in getting your car this fall, 2006.
