Sorry beecee, I have taken leave of absence from K.U. to take care of my seriously ill minature Dachshund who has a tumor near her brain, that she has had for some time and it has been treated with Kimo-therapy successfully and it is shrinking. However, Mindy has other problems as there is a a suspected cancer near her throat that shows as a shadow on the x-rays. So, all plans for the Las Vegas National Meet are gone. Sorry that I did not answer your topic before now, but I have been taking care of my wonderful Mindy that will be 13 years old on her next birthday. Of course those are our years, not theirs. In dog years she is now over 80. Her sister, Molly is doing just fine, thank you, and somewhat jealous that Mindy is getting all the attention.
Pardon the above off topic comments. If a Moderator wants to throw me out, so be it.
beecee, I believe we were one ot the first to order the Diamond stitch and it is sooooo much better than that hard piece of crap that GM stuck us with. The 1/4 inch padding plus the 2 mm of premium leather give it just enough comfort to be good to go for a long trip. It is still firm, without being cushy. I don't want my arm and elboe in a sauna for gosh sake. For me it is perfect. it is still firm, but with controls. I believe you will like it. I would see if you can drive one at a Meet. I will not be able to attend the Vegas Meet because we have a very sick dog to care for. I will not leave her until she either improves or dies. She has Cancer.
However, down the line we are going to the Southeastern Kentucky Meet. You are more than welcome to drive "Miss Red Eagle" at the meet, if you are planning to attend.
It is really the only way to find out. To answer your question, it does not leave impressions on your arm after a long drive. We have had several including the Meet and Drive in the Country, in Kansas City, that GO DRVN spearheaded. It got rave reviews at the Meet and I loved the way it felt on the 3 hour drive with the group.
Good luck, beecee, in making your decision. As far as I am concerned Joe at JPM is the only way to go!

It's getting close to the time when we will begin our journey to the Lexington Regional Meet as we begin our journey on August 21st. It will be great to see all the new Center Console's at the Meet.

I just received my new shifter and boot from JPM yesterday. I also had my center console padded and leather covered. I have been watching this thread since it began and spent quite a bit of time deciding how I wanted my center console done, either plain leather, plain stitched or diamond pattern stitched. I decided to go with the plain leather. Most people don't realize it didn't come from the factory like that. This is the way it should have come as the ¼" padding is perfect for using the console as an arm rest.
I also went a little different on the shifter knob. I decided on the black co-polymer piston with shift pattern engraved in white. I also had USMC embroidered on the leather shifter boot since I'm retired from the Marine Corps. It took all of ten minutes to change out the stock shifter and boot. I love the feel of the shifter much better than the stock one. The shifter and boot got many good comments at a car show I participated in today.
I PM'd ROBOWO the following on 05/18-2008: "I saw the improvements and upgrades that Joe did for you and I was Most impressed. Since you are familiar with this thread, that I began way back, I have a question or two for you. I would appreciate your honesty in response.
I really like the stock shifter, however, am wavering and possibly thinking of having Joe at JPM redo mine at the Southeastern Regional Meet in Lexington, Kentucky. Yours is the first one I have seen that really appeals to me. I don't like the round ball one, really. It just looks to contemporary for my taste. I am more traditional. The one you selected is somewhat closer to the look of the stock unit.
My question is: How does it feel compared to the stock unit when shifting? What about your shift point and hand position on the shifter. If you could describe how differently it shifts to the touch? Is it easier to manipulate between the gears? In progression of shifts, does it feel smoother, silky, or does it have a more aggressive feel to it? Sorry, about all the questions, but I had to get your impressions of how it is different than the stock unit. I may go ahead and have Joe at JPM install one at the Southeastern Meet.
Thanks in advance for your advice and information. I may post this to the thread, but will wait to see if you mind, at all?"
We just had our Spring Kansas City Meet yesterday and 5 Solstice's showed up and two of them minus wifes so there were eight people there. GO DRVN, who organized the Meet and his wife of course were there and we had a great time spending time with them. The location for the meal was great, just blocks from our home in Olathe, Kansas.
Here is the PM I got back from ROBOWO:
[quote] "I also debated a lot on what I wanted for a shift knob. I'm not a big fan of the stock shifter. I think the top, where the shift pattern is looks cheap. I doen't particularly care for the round knobs either. I like to hold the shifter knob from the side instead of from the top, so a slightly longer, but thinner knob is right for me. It also seems that everyone is replacing the stock knobs with the round ones. Joe said I was the first one to get the piston knob. I also went with the co-polymer type instead of aluminum, because it doesn't get hot from the sun in the summer, or cold in winter. I also enter my Solstice in car shows, so I wanted something a little different than everyone else. That's the reason I had USMC embroidered on the leather shift boot. The shift boot also looks much better than the stock vinyl one.
The piston is 1 1/2" across, 1 3/4" tall to where it begins to taper down and about 3" long total. I never liked the heavy feel of the stock shifter. I don't know that the new one shifts any easier, but it feels different. The piston know fits my hand perfectly, and there fore, the shifting feels more precise and very smooth. Another advantage is that I don't accidently turn the radio off when I shift anymore.
Joe didn't have the chance to get my shift pattern engraved before nationals in Vegas, so he took it with him and showed it off. Joe does great work. If you decide to go with him, you won't be disappointed. I love the work he did on my center console also!
I wish we had a Solstice group here in the Greensboro, NC area. There doesn't seem to be an interest so far. In lieu of Solstice meets I've been partricipating in car shows, and doing very well. The Solstice gets lots of attention.
You can post any of this information thay you want to. If you have any further questions just let me know.
ROBOWO
Thanks a ton ROBOWO, appreciate all the great information. GXPinKC

I got my door pads and center pad two days ago. Installed them last night. Went for a quick drive. I think the feeling in my elbows is starting to return.
I'll be going for a longer drive on sunday for a better evaluation.
I can tell you from experience gmineman that you will forever be thankful for the way your elbow now feels, especially on long drives. The comfort of just that 1/4 inch of padding makes a big difference. JPM is the best.

Depends on what your job requires. For instance, some are more involved than others, and JPM had to raise his prices recently due to increased costs to get Italian leathers from Italy. But believe me, the looks and padding are well worth every penny. I can't tell you how many compliments I have received on our Center Console, which is truly our "Miracle in the Middle of the Cabin"! I would make the investment, if nothing else, just for the comfort factor.
Decide what you want and get in touch with Joe at JPM, and he will give you the figures.
For what I got, it was very reasonable.
