The Aisan transmission in your car is actually used in many applications. As a Tier One vendor to GM and many other OEMS, Aisan places transmissions like this one in a wide array of vehicles, including our own Colorado and Canyon.

Here's the spec sheet on the Aisin transmission used in the Sky, Solstice, Colorado, Canyon and Hummer H3. Note that the third gear ratio is different for the Sky/Solstice.

I believe I read on here somewhere that hte tranny is also used in the cadi CTX or was it S and that is where the complaints came in that they had the auto with manual control.

GM shares alot of components when building cars. It only makes sense...

The Solstice shares major components with nearly every GM division:

* The rear axle and differential are from the Sigma-based Cadillac CTS
* The interior storage bin is from the Cadillac XLR
* The passenger's side airbag, steering column, and exterior and interior door handles are from the Chevrolet Cobalt
* The backup lights are from the GMC Envoy
* The heating, ventilating, and air conditioning modules are from the Hummer H3
* The front fog lamp assembly is from the Pontiac Grand Prix
* The steering wheel is from the Pontiac Torrent, Pontiac G5, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Malibu
* The 2.4 L Ecotec engine is shared with the Opel Astra, Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Cobalt, and Chevrolet HHR
* The five-speed manual transmission is from the Hummer H3, GMC Canyon, and Chevrolet Colorado
* The five-speed automatic is from the Cadillac CTS, STS, and SRX
* The side view mirrors and AC vents are from the Fiat Barchetta
* The seat frames are from the previous generation Opel Corsa

LOW MAINTENANCE
The Aisin AR-5 uses Esso 75W90 for lubrication. There is no maintenance required under normal operating conditions, although fluid changes are recommended for severe duty. A GM part number service oil is available from GM dealers.

I guess some Solstice owners change their fluid for what reason?

I've always been a fan of changing out trans and rear axle lubes after the first 2,000 miles on every vehicle. The break-in process inevitably causes the metal content of the lube to be excessive, and there's not much sense slinging around metal particles in there for the next 100,000 miles

Severe Duty. Any driver claiming to "drive it like I stole it" would qualify. Or season-long weekend A/X.
