So, if you send in your ECM for a tune, what happens if you have to take your car in for warranty work, and they scan your ECM and discover the tune???
That is what I like about the idea behind self-loaded tunes, you can return to stock with your laptop.
I had a handheld programmer for my Hemi truck, and it would store your stock program, and easily reload it if you had to go in for service.
I wish we could get a device like that, or at least HP Tuner to use with our personal laptops.

So if the tune you had installed broke something you expect that the dealer would fix that for you free of charge? If you want warranty and have concerns about that then you should not modify the tune that runs your car.

So hope you are aware that in the future the car manufacturers are looking for ways to develop the ability to detect that you have flashed the car so this may all become a mute point as far as the way a tune is delivered or installed.

Westers will do retunes for free as long as you own your car, and do a tune on your next car free too. He did the whole HP tuners thing and people posted his tunes. If HP tuners would add some security for Pro tuners he could email the tunes. He is working on a way to do this, but I would rather have him working on tunes myself. He gets the ECM back to you in 1 day, and we are working on finding spares so he can do a swap. He sends you the new or retuned ECM and you just send yours back. He has been doing this since 1995. Other than shipping costs it works very well. I have changed the tune on my truck a couple of times this way. I am not sure anyone has done a Mallett conversion on a GXP, mostly the NA I think. You can buy NA ECM's all day. It would be a very rare dealer that could read your tune, nit that it's hard to do they just don't have the equipment, yet. My dealer knows my car has a tune and doesn't care as long as it doesn't cause and issue. Some dealers are not so understanding. They also can see the new intercooler cat and exhaust pretty easily. If HPT figures out a way to lock down tunes our puy copy protection in them things will change. Westers is not the only one with this problem.

That is most likely the same one I found, it was in Melborne I think. I sent them an email yesterday afternoon to buy, never heard back. I was to busy at work to call. If it is the one I saw Lyndon will buy it. I already spoke with him about it.
Yes, is the one in Melborne . I spoke with the sales person and he will take a credit card. If Lyndon is going to buy it then I will not buy it, that way he can have it.
Just let me know one way or the other, I do not one someone else getting it.

I can call and get it tomorrow, easier to ship it to me than for them to have to ship it to Canada, I will get the money out of Lyndon somehow. That means folks should be able to do a swap and have no down time for the tune. I will get it and put it in my car and test it before I ship it to the cold North. Thanks for the info LV!

I got the ECM, it should be to me by Friday and I will test it out and drive it around. Came out of a GXP that had 4 miles on it, they wrecked it coming of the truck. The car ran fine they totaled it because the frame was bent. WAHOO!

I'm just asking in general... we all know the rear ends in these cars leak, & several are noisey. Assume I've got a Tweaked ECM, take in for warranty repair on the rear end. Most dealers (at least around here) will automatically blame the modifications as the cause...even though there is already a standing high failure rate among stock cars.
They will use the "you have modified the ECM, therefore the entire driveline warranty is voided"...even if the extra power is not even related to the failure.
Here's another one I could see: Several windshields on the Kappa cars have been cracking. Take your car in with a modded ECM, they will blame the extra power to flexing, causing the crack...
That's why I want the capability to reload the stock program.

The differential is a known issue and there is a recall on it, they have to fix it, they can't read the ECM so they only know if you tell them. Sounds like you should just get the BSR, or leave tuning alone if you are so worried. My car is very modded and is getting the differential fixed next Tuesday, no problem at all. You can see most of the mods when you open the hood. They are also replacing a cracked front inner fender and the infamous cup holder under warranty.

I would honestly say your dealers are pushing their claim then...we have added a CAI and aftermarket exhaust....though admittedly not significant modifcations and our service department has absolutely no problems with them....any "reasonable" service tech can ascertain what the cause of a failure might be and whether it can be directly contributed to a owner modification.......but as you pointed out..it seems your service department goes out of their way to deny a claim......but again..its up to the service department to prove that a modification directly contributed to a failure......if your dealer blames a leaking differential on a CAI or exhaust or even an ECM...IMHO they are looking for an excuse instead of working with their customer....
unless Im mistaken..the dealer cant determine if the ECM has been tuned unless you tell them....if they end up reflashing it for an update...it simply over rides the previous tune.....
buttomline..if you are worried about warranty work....dont mod the car.....

It's obvious that I'm a worry-wart, but, want my hp increase too!
Just like I don't agree that some dealers will deny driveline warranty repairs if the stock catalytic converter has been replaced.
Just to keep a better piece of mind, I spent the extra money to get the GMPP to hopefully stay warranty compliant....
Maybe someday, the pipe dream of the "GMPP GXP Stage-2" tune will be made available.
At the moment, I can't afford anybody's tune anyway!! (But, I like to know what's out there).
