Forgive my ignorance, but I have no clue what GXP stands for. I did a little searching and couldn't find anything, so I thought I would turn to you guys. I was a little embarrassed the other day when someone asked me about my car and I couldn't tell them. Is it something similar to Trans Am?
If you wouldn't mind enlightening one such as myself I would appreciate it.
Your friendly neighborhood tri-junky, gearhead and medic.

Pontiac: "We Used to Build Excitement! Now We Build Nothing"....
"Grand Touring is a type of race still held today.
Grand touring Prototype was a type of race being held a number of years ago.
All of Pontiacs cars used to be named after races. The Grand Prix GTP was named after two races: The famous Grand Prix still held today and the nostalgic GTP races of yesteryear.
GXP was the name given only to Pontiacs Concept Cars. Pontiac "The Excitement Division" stired up their fans by maintianing a page on their site where every car they sold had a beafed up GXP version. GTP was the SS of Pontiac. However, the "T" was dropped from "GTP" and replaced with an "X" (eXperimental) to differentiate these non-production cars."

Noticing a pattern here...my AMX from years ago stands for "American Motors eXperimental". Then I got the Solstice GXP with no knowledge of the fact that the X was for eXperimental in this case too... Not sure what that says about my taste in cars but I do love them both!
