Sorry im not quick enough to answer all your questions. Give me about an hour, and i will have some pictures of top up, me sitting in it with helmet (6'1), doing the broomstick test.

As for the powder coating question, this is a custom order you would have to call and get, and it would take a lot longer to get it. If anyone who wants it Non-powder coated wants it, they would have to order it today, by phone, (714)847-2158, and the best i can do is 50.00 off. We are about to send all of them out to powder coat.

It should take a fairly mechanically inclined person about 2 hours to install, there is the cutting of that facotry trim piece (with provided templates) small amount of drilling (factory plastic flap) Its really not too hard.

Good looking product, by the way.

OK, so that factory plastic piece, you would have to drill a small hole in, secure it with the provided plastic screw, while the top is down. if you want the top to come up, you would have to remove this plastic piece, which is about a 1 minute job with the phillips screw provided

So in the picture's at the start of this the top will NOT go up?

Your saying just remove that little black fastener so the flap operates like it did from the factory?

Thanks for posting this thread. I do have some questions though. Are there any plans on getting this certified and made legal to race? I'm tired of never being able to join the rest of the guys for track day since the car has no legal roll bar. If the bar is held on by a few screws, I can't see how this is "safe". Please inform. I am very interested in the product and will happily pay 3x the cost you are asking if it can be certified.

unfortunately the only thing we can offer to keep the cost down, is the factory trim silver powder coat, or bare metal to do what you like with. shipping cost depends on your location. The plastic piece removes completly when the top comes up. we just kept these pieces removable, so it gives it a cleaner look when the top is down. Main hoop weight is 13.5lbs, Harness bar piece is 8lbs, total 21.5lbs.

We really want to get this certified to let us all have some fun at the track, we are shooting some ideas around, but basically, when i safe, i mean safer than nothing, if you see our product in person, how its mounted, its structual rigidity, you will most likely have a little more confidence in it. With this product we tried to split the difference in the group of people that would be buying, people who want it for looks, and people who want it to run harness' to help keep them in place. we tried to do as much functionality, but bottom line, It HAD to work with the convertible top.

with all this in mind, this is what we came up with, i will obviously keep everyone updated if we end up with any certification on this product, as of now, it should pass the broomstick test with people up to 6 foot(with helmet, and factory seats)

Am I correct in my interpretation of the pictures that this bar stops at the height of the rear deck cowling ?

That's what I'm seeing also JRinKY. Doesn't appear to touch any substantial strength sub-framing other than that point. May be a track inspection issue also. I like it though. I have a pattern for one I was about to start fabricating myself but am having the same issue with reaching good sub frame mounting points that don't block anything.

The question I have also is when you said the helmet wouldn't fit anyone taller were you meaning the helmet size itself or wouldn't pass the broomstick test?

My interpretation was that they didn't have a helmet to fit anyone taller, but from the un-helmeted picture, it doesn't look like he would pass the broomstick test with a helmet.

Maybe this is a negative comment, and should be stricken:

If this bar only bolts to the top of the rear cowl it is not a roll bar, and using it with a full harness is not very smart. Also, if testing, or at least some theoretical engineering, has not been done to verify its crashworthiness, sugesting that it be used with a harness is quite irresponsible.
