...The intake drew air from right behind the grill, at about the same position as the existing factory intake. Max HP gain was less than 3 HP, at high RPMs. The noise was an irritating whistling intake air sound that made it hard to hear the radio. The manufacturer warns not to locate the air intake in a place where it might ingest water. One tablespoon of water in a small block Chevy cylinder will probably break or bend the connecting rod, put a hole in the piston, etc. Air filters for these systems are not factory and not cheap. Now, does anyone think I'm going to rush out and buy one of these systems?
I'm a lurker and shouldn't introduce myself this way, but this is the second time misinformation is being used to badmouth a vendors' product. I can't stands no more!
To answer your (rhetorical) question, no. Nobody thinks you will buy one. But many definitely disagree with you... In my research (read: installing similar products on 4 cars I have owned in the past) the benefits far outweigh the remote possibility for problems. I enjoy hearing that air pump (otherwise known as an engine) breathe freely. The annoying whistling some might describe is an adrenalin charged whoosh to others, that corresponds directly to cranking open the throttle. Besides, unless the open filter is right behind the drivers' head (experience with an 88 Fiero) or the car is hoodless, the whistling/inhaling sound should be minimal in the passenger compartment (even in a convertible).
I had a March Ram Air kit on a 5.0L Stang I used to own... the car was lowered 1.5". The scoop included in the kit was huge and was totally open and forward facing below the bottom of the bumper cover - a much "wetter" location than stock. No problems whatsoever, even here in the Pacific Northwest Rainforest! So kingarthur, hopefully you don't take this the wrong way, but anyone with some varied experience re: CAI would likely purchase them again.
Anyways, let's show some support for the vendors and keep the bench mechanics to ourselves! Results speak louder than myth - Keep the tasty bits coming!

That looks pretty cool Stig. How about a painted aluminum finish? That might look cool too. I can't wait to see what you got for the rest of the week. I already like the first two products.

any of these tasty bits gonna be suprises? like the shift gate? I hope so. And about the exhaust, any idea on the cost difference between the dual and single? If it is too high I'll just order the single.
I have use this type of intake system on my ZR2 Blazer, thay work well but there are some things to know.
1. Keep the filter clean and oiled.
2. The oil used on the air filter can get on the mass air sensor. If you see your gas mileage start to go down use some carb cleaner and just remove the residue. I check this on my blazer once a month With the regular checks and maintenance
3. If you will be driving in an area with a lot of dust and debris, there is a porous cover almost like a bag that can go over the intake. I use this when I drive in sand and loose dirt.
Location: Yuba City, California .... The BIG Cowpie!
If nothing else that is a sweet looking installation. But the extra torque will be the reasoning for actually getting one. Not that those racy looks hurt it any. Just gorgeous. Would make me very proud to raise the hood.
