For those who saw my Black Red Line over the weekend at the Niagarra run ,you all know what will be the question here .....
Does any one have a product that will remove safelly the paint that designs the road lines....Black n Yellow dripping is not exactly a patern I like !!!
before submitting answers ...i have tried....
§olvents of all kinds....Lacquer, chromabase, Acrylics , Acetone, Tar remover even products that states it will remove road paint....
5 out of 7 body shops told me a new paint job is the only way ...the 2 others suggested one of the above products....
Am I S.O.L. or does any one have a * gran-ma* trick somewhere ? ....
Road paint is usually water based if it is fast dry, which doesn't seem to be the case here.
The other two most commonly used marking paints are polyester and acrylic based.
Some nasty carcinogen like trychlorethylene may remove it, but I have no idea what it would do to the existing paint on the car.
Try Acryl-Safe PF600, it should do the trick with minimal effort. Most body shop suppliers carry this. you will need to wax the area after as it will remove that too.

before you repaint it and all else fails, could it be wet sanded and repolished? Even a clear coat sanding and polishing is less than a repaint.
One thing though i have never had overspray that could not come off. Unless the object over sprayed is porous enough to bite. Your car is new sounds like you wax alot. Hard to believe this road stripe paint would be so hard. try a Clay bar first. Solvents i would stay away from as they will harm the clear coat, depending on what you have.
Have you tried WD-40? Seems to get just about everything else off the paint.

Road paint, either aerosol can temporary type, or epoxy based yellow or white lines, or the hot-melt ready-to-drive-on-when-cooled-to-road-temperature style (for wider stripes like crosswalks) has very little or no solvent in it.
It attaches through adhesion. Not a solvent bond. (Ok, the hot-melt style is kind of a temperature derived "solvent bond".)
So you do not need to remove by abrasion and run the risk of removing adjacent paint or clear coat. All you need to do is break the adhesive joint. Sort of like picking the paint off like a scab.
Clean and dry the area with some windex. You may do this with a dry surface, or wet with windex, or lightly soapy water. And use your thumbnail to bull-nose the paint off.
Or if you keep your nails trimmed tight . . . Cut a sharp 45 degree edge on a plastic gasket scraper (aka. plastic burger flipper), and do the same thing. You can cut the 45 degree edge with a box knife.
If you really want a good tool, go to a shop that tints car windows and check out the various tools they have made for themselves to push the film against the glass in tight corners. Ask them for some of that plastic.
When finished you can easily remove any surface "de-glossing". This whole process will remove virtually no base paint or clear coat. It is extraordinarily difficult to scratch one material with another material softer that it. Your natural fingernail (not your girlfriend's polycarbonate nails), or the soft plastic of a kitchen utensil, can be made to damage paint only if that is your intention.
Sure you can abrade the offending paint off, but you may not need to. And this process is easy on the substrate.
And for vinyl house paint from an airless. Soak a folded paper towel and place it on the area to soften the paint. Cover the towel with saran wrap to slow the evaporation.

As a chemist, I tend to think of chemical solutions for issues such as this. In this case, I do think that the physical solution ("scrape the stuff off") may very well be your best bet.
Were I to be in your situation, I'd try this:
1) spray liberally with WD-40 (or the Acryl-Safe PF600 mentioned above. Both are hydrocarbon solvent mixes and should do no harm to fully cured paints)
2) cover with Saran® wrap and tape the edges down to keep the solvent in contact with the offensive paint
3) wait 30-40 minutes
4) remove Saran wrap
5) _Gently_ scrape with fingernail or _soft_ plastic scraper
PLEASE NOTE THE USE OF THE SUBJECTIVE CASE ABOVE. I have NOT been in your situation. My post is thus somewhat conjecture, based upon what I _think_ _should_ work. Your results may vary.
Our clear coats are hard but not impenetrable. Do exercise care regardless of how you choose to attack this.

I even got them to repaint the hood and change my windshield after a bug with kidney stones dented the hood and bounced in my windshield and craqued it....
We usually get what we pay for ...in this case ...high fives to my insurrer !!!
