My wife and I finally made it to a SCCA autocross event. The car has CAI, Solo Race exhaust and 295 Hoosiers. With two of us participating we had both the in-car and trackside view. We have auto crossed our viper for five years so we have a good benchmark for comparison.
Here are some of our insights:
1. The car handled the course as smooth as any car at the event. There was very little lean in the corners. It did seem to unsettle a bit in the slalom, that might have been my fault.
2. At this point in time with the oem alignment the car has a bit of oversteer, but, only at the extreme limits of traction.
3. It turns in much faster than the viper, which caused a lot of cones to wither. It also hurt me in the slalom, I have to learn to slow down the turn-in.
4. We did a total of 14 runs, near the end the clutch started to smell a bit. It is fine today.
5. I thought we would run out of 2nd gear, but, only a couple of times did we see the shift light. I have the light set at 5800, therefore, have a bit left once the light flashes.
6. I could not believe how well the car gripped in the corners it was though it was on rails.
7. With the Solo race exhaust it sounded as good as any car at the event, it didn't sound like a four cylinder.
8. Second gear seemed to handle 90% of the course. The turbo spools early enough that you seldom needed more power. I tried a few of the tight corners in first, and found second had better results. I have done the bypass mod on the turbo solenoid, perhaps this was why the power was always there.

What class are you running then? IIRC you cannot modify the boost control even in SP, so that would mean SM2?

Boost control (both mechanical and electronic) is open in SP classes now. That would make him/them ASP.
ASP otherwise known as GYAHTY class...

If it didn't come that way from the factory and there is no factory TSB authorizing the mod for street use it is illegal to do in stock class without a doubt, no debate about it. #1 rule: if the rules don't specifically say you can do it you CAN'T!
By the way CAI is also illegal in stock class.

I was running A stock. Is that really modifying the boost control, that is debatable.
If the bypass valve is closed when it otherwise would have been open, then you have modified boost control. People say that they see max boost sooner and that definately a modification. It doesn't need to be a change to the max boost, only that the boost is controlled differently than stock.

I hope your blood pressure did not go too high! You are so predictable.

Excuse me? Are you pretending to know me? If you did you would know my blood pressure didn't go up a single digit, I'm not an excitable person.
If predictable you mean that I race by the rule book, then guilty as charged. If informing someone they are competing illegally is predictable then you are right again. You can't possibly know me since I don't know anyone who would deliberately run an illegal car for a piece of wood. If you are such a person, then I am glad I don't know you.

WTF.
Some of us care about the rules and try to impress that on others. Did you beat someone? How would you think they would feel if they knew that you were cheating? If you have been doing this for 5 years, then you should have a good understanding about the rules.
This is an amature sport with what $5 trophies at most? Why wouldn't you do the right thing and class your car appropiately, in ASP, and have fun. If you want to be competitive in AS, take the CAI and boost mod off the car when you race. I say at the drivers meetings of my region that if you really want a first place trophy bad enough that you'll cheat or be a poor sport about it - I'll just give one to you and save you the hastle. If you want to earn it, play fair.

I did not mean to be disrespectful, but, if you follow your posts, you are predictable. You were baited and did not even know it. I always thought caps went with an increase in blood pressure?
Baiting me? Why would you be baiting me, I repeat you don't even know me. Sounded to me (and evidently to Rob as well) like you were bragging about disregarding the rules.
I use caps for emphasis not to express my health. If my posts offend you in some way I believe there is a way to put someone on your personal ignore list.

I have read, and re-read the posts in this thread. I am still look for any part of Jack's posts that look like he was bragging. It certainly does appear that he was not aware of the legality of his car for A/Stock.
Simply put, Jack, you basically can't do ANYTHING to the intake system or engine in stock class EXCEPT remove or replace the air filter. The cat can not be replaced (certain limitations), but the exhaust is free for modification. So, as presently equipped, you are positioned for A/Street Prepared.
BTW, some people have dyno'ed the bypass mod, and have found that low end response increased but they saw some boost drop at higher rpm. Another discovery is that the CIA has shown SOME gains, but the real winner is the exhaust. A/SP is hopeless for the GXP/RL (but the classes are usually smaller), but if you want to maintain your mods, this is your class. If you want to run A/SP, lower the car, add stiffer bars, do every legal mod, and learn to shift well, because second gear sucks on the GXP/RL. Hopefully the requests to SCCA to move the GXP/RL to B/SP will be successful.
edit - crank in about 2.3 neg camber front and 2 neg rear and you will be amazed.
And everybody

Although not bragging, it wasn't a "I didn't know..." type of reply that was expected. And actually, I don't see anywhere that Jack said that he didn't know that the mods weren't allowed only that the the boost mod may not really be modifying boost control. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't know and his region may be a little lax about modifications so I'm not going to push it.
