Just a note here.. I am bringing my tires and will be driving Alex's GXP in SM2. I don't think I stand a chance in that class, but at least I should be able to gauge things on PAX and determine if it's worth buying the Hoosiers and running at Nationals come September.

Thanks again to Alex, and I'll see everyone there shortly. I'm out of work in a few hours and on my way.

At the end of the day today.
Rich is in 4th in SM2 out of 6 drivers. on street tires and the first time driving my car, so i think that's pretty good!

I am currently sitting 3rd in ASP and my co-driver, wong, is in 6th out of 9 drivers. I had the lead in ASP until the thrid runs when the current 1st and 2nd place were able to clean it up.

tomorrows course looks like it might favor a corvette over the GXP but we'll see because i had the same thought going into today's runs.

The power in Alex's GXP is addictive... the Wester's Tune is really nice, and it was a little more power than I was expecting. I got the car under control on the 3rd run run moved into 4th then, so I'm looking for a couple clean runs today to see what I can do.

Well I just got home and i am glad to be sitting on the couch!

Sunday's runs were fun.
when we walked the course it looks very power friendly (i.e. a corvette course).
I was the second driver, right before i left for my run it started to rain. not too hard but enough to put the top up and need the wipers a bit. I took my first run too slowly and hit a cone.
The rain had stopped by my second run, it was faster but i hit the same cone at the end.
on my third run i was pulling up with the top down and it started to rain. I said screw putting the top up, i just leaned over the steering wheel while i was waiting to keep it dry.
I decided to try to push it on my last run (kinda dangerous not having any clean runs yet). I ended up keeping it clean and droping a good chunk of time and taking 3rd in the class (last trophy spot). too bad no free tire(s) for 3rd place

But I am very happy with the car. still more development.
Although, i don't think Rob will be too happy, but i think the car fits ASP better than BSP.

I know changing conditions and all that... But you were still 1.4+ seconds out of first. Do you think that the car has that much development left in it or are you chasing tenths?

Is your opinion based on RWD vs. AWD? There I can understand the better fit. But when it comes down to performance, BSP with the older Corvettes and other turbo 4s would be a better spot. IMHO of course.

Part of it is based on RWD vs. AWD. the other is based on how much development is left in the car. I know that we can get alot more torque out of that thing that we have.

Also, i know i am not the best driver out there and still need more seat time. maybe then w/ a fully developed car can we actually tell where it should be.

Ofcourse this up comming weekend will tell alot too as Jr. and Hector will be running ASP and we'll be in the under developed GXP.
With out the clutch/fly wheel and upped power we will be hurting at the start.

edit: note on the changing condition. Saturday we all (ASP) had great weather to run in. Sunday was a diffrent story, second drivers (Jason Collet and I) in the 4th heat had to deal with it spitting/raining a bit. it didn't seem too bad as Jason and I made our best runs last durring some of the spit.

I got my clean run (thankfully) in on Sunday, and while I just tipped over one cone (last in the slalom both times) my times were consistent... less than 0.300 seconds between fastest and slowest run of the three (raw times, not w/ cone penalty).

Anyway, after three runs under my belt in Alex's car I felt like I could control it, but not yet use the car to it's potential. My AS GXP is the fastest car I've driven like this, so jumping up to the ASP car (and borrowing the car to boot) had me a little tentative.

Saturday I was 6 seconds off the pace in SM2, and Sunday I was 1.5 seconds off the pace... so a great improvement. Note, I was running my RE-01R's as well... the rest of the class was on Hoosiers and the RX7 was a fully prepped SM2 car, the 'Vette was a SS car running in SM2 to snag a trophy (which he did).

All in all I think I did well in a borrowed car and never beat Alex's times and wouldn't have even if I had run on his tires. It is a great car, and I'm looking forward to Toledo to see how Alex and Jason run.

Alex... again, thanks for letting me borrow the car. It was great to meet you, and I look forward to see you and the whole Detroit gang again soon.

The ASP Solstice is sexy and I had relations with that car while Alex was not looking.
