Hey guys! I just signed up just to ask this. I have browed the forms on and off since the solstice came out (I came from the Fiero Community). I don't have a solstice yet, but am actually thinking of selling my GTO for one as a track car, which is what my goat is now. Problem is, the events I participate in, I would be required to put in roll bars. I have search a number of times as my dad has a GXP that I have been trying to help him with. I know the one shop in Huston has installed roll bars that were able to keep the soft top, but is there any shops offering this or a kit that is just no coming up in my search? What is the current solution to this? I would like to keep the soft top, but changing to a hard time is ok if its the ONLY solution. Also, what kind of cost are the bar sets your using? Just getting an estimate.
Before you even start thinking about cost etc. for a roll bar, get the rules from the organization you want to race with, as that will determine if and how you can install a legal bar in a Solstice.
I've actually seen people pay a shop to stick something in their cars without checking and then get told they can't run as what they have doesn't match the rules, when they show up at the track.
Currently I just run with VIR Club with my 04 GTO. However I would like to do some schools and run with NASA. All the schools I have talked to as well as the club want an "approved" roll bar. NASA has national rules and the club would be fine with any thing meeting NASA or SCCA rules.
My dad has a solstice GXP, so thats part of why I am doing the research, but he is unsure if he actually wants to track his car as he drives the Fiero GT V8 I built.
I've not decided for sure if I want to sell the goat for a Solstice. Also not decided if I would rather have a GXP or 2.4. I would like to work my way to NASA time trials.
The Fiero and the Solstice are two of the most difficult car to fit a race legal roll bar into without doing major cutting on the body. Only worse one I recall was the Porsche 914!
For what he is doing with it, we don't require a roll bar/cage right now. The solstice will because it is a convertible (and already checked, putting a hard top on it will not fix the problem.
Sorry,
According to forum rules advertisements for non supporting venders are not allowed
We have supporting venders who are selling roll bars see Werks
I sent you a PM with more information and recommendations for how you might keep us informed of your progress.
The final stages of having the SCCA Solo guidelines met to run the car in HPDE events is nearing completion. Thanks SF for providing a lot of info along the way. The work was done by Flatout Motorsports, Mendon, MA. Fortunately they're a full service race shop and have the expertise to fabricate what is required to meet various track and Solo specs.
I am looking forward to getting it back once all the panels are back in. I'll attach some pictures of the car's interior stripped down once I resize the format.
This thread by Brogan http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f11/roll-bar-take-two-130569/#/topics/130569?_k=fvw6bo has pictures of a RPM rollbar in a solstice.
Ive been in contact with RPM and the mild steel bar is $1200 for a 4 point and$ $1550 for a 6 point
The say the bar is legal for track days or get your money back.
I'm hoping to get a few Solstice owners to order together and try for a wholesale price?
I'm in Washington state
I have been talking to the manufacturer of Brogans rollbar and have worked out a 20% discount.
We can not discuss this in too much detail since RPM is not an advertiser on this forum.
PM me for details.
If I was going to put a roll bar in a Soltice vert it would have front and rear braces (never raced without both). I would add Norms coupe roof and mount a spare tire in the back. Pricey though...
